About Coota Park blue-E
Blue-E is a family-owned composite seedstock operation based at Woodstock in Central West New South Wales, Australia. The business runs around 600 breeding cows and has spent decades focused on balancing profitability, productivity and sustainability in commercial beef production. Originally developed as a 50:50 Angus–Shorthorn composite, the breeding program has expanded to incorporate other genetics, predominantly Simmental–Angus composites.
Since the inception of the Blue-E line in 1997, the business has recorded individual feed intake data, progressing from a manual 48-pen feeding system to the automated Vytelle feeding technology from Canada. Blue-E cattle have been tested for feed efficiency longer than any other herd in the world, with results demonstrating 15–20% improvements in efficiency, reducing both production costs and methane emissions per kilogram of beef produced.
Blue-E uses a multi-trait selection approach, ensuring feed efficiency is balanced alongside the key profit drivers that underpin long-term commercial beef performance.
