About Castle Camps Border Leicester

The Castle Camps Border Leicester and White Suffolk studs are located approximately 20km south of Keith on the Riddoch Hwy in the Upper Southeast of South Australia. The Border Leicester stud was established in 1979 with the White Suffolk stud starting in 1993.  Along with the two stud flocks Ian & Sue also run Merino ewes mated to Border rams and First Cross ewes mated to White Suffolk rams.
One question we get asked regularly is where does the name “Castle Camps” come from. Well, it is the name of a small village in Cambridgeshire England. It was from here that some of Ian’s mothers’ family emigrated from in the 1860’s
At Castle Camps our aim is to breed well muscled structurally sound rams that will go on to perform for our clients.  To do this we use both our sheep genetics data and visual selection. Our stud ewes are run under commercial conditions with importance placed on sheep with natural doing ability. As commercial lamb production is a big part of our enterprise, we know the importance of maintaining this same commercial focus when breeding stud sheep.
