About Armdale Poll Dorset Stud
Armdale Poll Dorset Stud was founded in 1938, originally as a Dorset Horn Stud by John Armstrong and his son Alby near Marrar NSW. Our foundation ewes were sourced from Alleynside and Broughton Brook. In 1957, Armdale transitioned entirely to Poll Dorsets right at the birth of the breed in Australia, earning foundation-era stud status.
In the 1960's, Alby's son Noel took the reins, expanding the Stud significantly as well as setting record sale prices and investing in high-priced, elite sires. Noel's son, Garry stepped in during the 1980's and Armdale became a dominant Stud in the show-ring winning interbreed classes at multiple shows across the country. Furthermore, the introduction of performance recording data saw Armdale rams continue to be highly sought after by commercial producer across the country.
In 2024, Garry's son Sam and his wife Maddy purchased the Stud pushing it into its 5th generation of Armstrong ownership.
With over 85 years of breeding up their sleeve and 50 annual on-property ram sales, Armdale genetics have influenced millions of lambs across the country and internationally. Our rams continue to dominate the show-ring and the red meat industry.
