The popularity of farmers’ markets has exploded in recent years as consumers increasingly seek a closer connection with food producers.

No more so than in arguably Australia’s premier food state of Victoria, where hundreds of markets pop up each weekend at local ovals and parks, town halls and on footpaths, offering the freshest seasonal local produce, meats, handmade preserves, cheeses and gourmet products – straight from regional farms, orchards, dairies and artisanal producers.

Warragul Farmers’ Market

Held on the third Saturday of every month from 8:30am to 1:00pm in one of the town’s most beautiful parks, the Warragul Farmers’ Market is an authentic and family-friendly event which showcases the wonderful goods of local Gippsland producers.

There is huge variety in the items on offer, with over 60 stalls in the market each month, selling everything from fresh bread and fruit to plants and freshly made coffee. There is also live music and seating areas.

Wangaratta Farmers’ Market

Established in 2014, the Wangaratta Farmers’ Market is held on the second Saturday of every month at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, corner of Docker and Ovens streets.

The markets provide a venue for local producers to sell fresh, seasonal produce and food products made from that produce direct to the community.

Producers include Beechworth Berries, Dawn View Olive Oil, King Valley Walnuts, Milawa Artisan Bakers, Tolpuddle Goat Cheese & Farm Foods, Walkabout Aviaries and Woodland Gourmet Mushrooms.

Albury Wodonga Farmers’ Market

The Albury Wodonga Farmers’ Market is held every Saturday at Gateway Village Wodonga - Lincoln Causeway.

The farmers and producers are local to the Albury-Wodonga region, and many travel to bring fresh seasonal fruit and veggies, baked sourdough bread, preserves, artisan cakes and pies, meat including beef, goat, pork and hand-crafted smallgoods.

Rutherglen Farmers’ Market

The Rutherglen Farmers’ Market brings together all that is seasonal, regional and beautiful about produce in north-east Victoria.

Held on the second Sunday of every month, the market attracts more than 25 stall holders offering everything from artisan breads, to seasonal fruits and vegetables, oils, jams, preserves, local honey, artisan wares and so much more.

Plus check out the annual Rutherglen Country Fair, one of the largest regional markets in Victoria, featuring over 150 stallholders showcasing the best produce, craft and variety of food stalls in a carnival atmosphere to be enjoyed by the whole family.

Sunraysia Farmers’ Market

Held on the first and third Saturday of each month from 8.00am-12:00pm, the Sunraysia Farmers’ Market aims to provide the platform that links good food direct from the region’s producers with the community.

The market typically has 40+ stallholders attend every market and also conduct occasional free cooking demonstrations through which invited chefs offer, educate and inspire healthy food options using seasonal produce that has been sourced directly from the market.

Kyneton Farmers’ Market

Held on the second Saturday of every month from 8.30am-1.00pm at St Paul’s Park, Kyneton Farmers’ Market boasts 50+ food stalls.

Here you can connect with producers offering fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, local lamb and pork, pasture raised eggs, fish, sourdough bread, handmade cakes, honey, jams, olives, local wines, gin, cider and mead, backyard chooks, ceramics, jewellery and hand knitted/sewn toys.

An easy one-hour drive from Melbourne CBD, the market also features a ‘Makers’ market section featuring unique and creative handmade items.

Ballarat Farmers’ Market

Ballarat Farmers’ Market takes place in central Ballarat near the shores of beautiful Lake Wendouree on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.

The market has over 60 stalls featuring coffee, hot food cooked, fresh vegetables, fruit, bread, olive oil, cheese, jams, chutneys and sauces, clothing, fudge, gifts, health bars, eggs, honey, wine, Cornish pasties, fresh ground coffee, yummy biscuits and hand-made jewellery.

There are also craft, clothing and gift stalls, as well as a massive range of dry goods (flours, grains, pulses, dried fruit, herbs, herbal teas, nuts and much more) and plants, including natives, edibles and succulents.
