Wide geographical support for Cardona Santa Gertrudis bull sale at Blackwater
Santa Gertrudis bulls sold to $40,000 at Cardona's annual sale at Blackwater on Tuesday, September 29.
Vendors, the Atkinson family, Cardona stud, and their invited vendors, the Wolff family, Canowindra stud, Emerald, saw classified bulls top at $40,000, resulting in a bottom-line average of $12,581 and a clearance at auction of 91 per cent for the 68 bulls sold.
Last year, bulls topped at $50,000 to average $12,782 and a clearance at auction of 94pc for the 78 bulls sold.
Buying support came from a wide geographical area across Queensland and into the Northern Territory.
Market pacesetter was the $40,000 Cardona Adelaide A90. The heterozygous poll at 25-months-old weighed 1100 kilograms, delivered P8 and rib fat measurements of 9 and 12 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 142 square centimetres, an intramuscular fat recording of 4.6pc, and an average daily gain of 1.46kg/day.
The son of Canowindra Warsaw W53 (P) sold to Steve McLucas, Roper Valley, Middlemount.
Chelbrook Cattle Company, Emerald, claimed the $30,000 Canowindra Zone In Z66.
The heterozygous poll aged 22 months weighed 910 kilograms, delivered P8 and rib fat measurements of 10 and 12mm respectively, an EMA of 146sq cm, an IMF recording of 5.6pc, and an average daily gain of 1.29kg/day.
Len and Sue Bode, Percol Plains, McKinlay, took with them five for a $19,200 average. This result included two homozygous poll bulls at $28,000 each.
The first was Cardona Austin A190 a 21-month-old by Drensmaine Illusion I144 while the other was the 21-month-old Canowindra Zanzibar Z74.
Chandler Pastoral Holdings, Kyneton, Barcaldine, returned to take seven for an average $14,857. These topped at $22,000 for a Canowindra entry, Zen Z58, aged 19 months.
Recruit Grazing Company, Clermont, claimed six for a $10,333 average.
Barrett Grazing, Southern Cross Station, Charters Towers, signed off on a card of five for $6400.
Napier Pastoral operated by Brad and Georgie Vickers, Delmore Downs, Alice Springs, NT, returned to take four head via online for an average $7500.
Alan and Julie Hay, Eka, Jericho, purchased a pair for a $14,000 average while Allan and Kelly Walker, Clearview, Bell, claimed a trio for a $13,333 average, topping at $18,000 for a Cardona bull.
Long-term supporters, the Menzies family, The Bend, Taroom, returned, taking four for a $10,000 average topping at $14,000.
Stuart Apel, Auburn River Pastoral, Chinchilla, secured a single entry for $10,000 while Ian Masterson, Lochlea Station, Mt Garnet, picked up three for a $9167 average.
The Edmistone family, Dingo, returned, taking a pair for a $12,000 average.
Another long-term client, the Fedderson family, Whitdale, Rubyvale, picked up three to average $11,333.
Taking a single bull at $12,000 was the Rideout family, Blue Hills, Thangool.
Owen Perrett and Company, Kabunga West, Wandoan, claimed a $16,000 son of Warenda Nairobi N62.
Gavin McKenzie, Tanyar Cattle Company, Blackwater, took the $16,000 son of Cardona T189.
Greg New, Many Waters, Nebo, also retuned taking four for a $14,000 average that topped at $18,000 for 21-month-old from the Canowindra stable sired by Forest Park 1848.
