Beefmaster tops Donaldson Family Bull Sale in a $1.288m result

Beefmasters sold to $30,000 while Droughtmasters sold to a top of $28,000 at the annual Donaldson Family Bull Sale at Bogantungan on September 25.

Vendors, the Donaldson families, saw a complete clearance of the catalogue, which resulted in 89 bulls setting an overall average of $14,472.

In a breakdown of the offering, 56 Droughtmasters averaged $13,286 while 33 Beefmaster counterparts set an average of $16,485 to culminate in a gross of $1.288 million.

Last year 99 bulls averaged $13,780 with 65 from 66 Droughtmaster bulls setting an average of $13,638 with a top price of $35,000. Thirty-three Beefmasters averaged $14,061 topping at $34,000.

Market pacesetter in 2026 was the 21-month-old, Beefmaster, DB Forrester BM3. DB Forrester BM3 weighed in at 820 kilograms, had an eye muscle area of 128 square centimetres, 15mm of rump fat, and 10mm of rib fat and an intramuscular fat reading of 4.5 per cent.

Taking the sale topper was Daiman Everingham, Gadwell Station, Alpha.

Topping the Droughtmaster section of the sale was Medway Ice Hockey, a 23-month-old homozygous polled son of Redskin Muddler. Weighing 858 kilograms, the bull had an EMA of 141sq cm, 15mm of rump fat and 10mm of rib fat, and an IMF reading of 5.5pc.

Taking the sectional topper via online bidding was Chris and Vicki Dmitrieff and family, Kurrajong, Alpha.
