Santahat's bull sale grosses over $1 million with complete clearance
Santa Gertrudis bulls hit $32,000 while Ultrablack and Angus bulls sold to $18,000 at the annual Santahat Santa Gertrudis Sale, Rawbelle Station, Monto, on September 18.
Hosted by the Hatton families, the result saw 55 Santa Gertrudis bulls set a $14,109 average and 31 Ultrablack and Angus bulls average $8903, resulting in a $1.052 million gross and an across the board average of $12,233.
Last year, 45 Santa Gertrudis bulls averaged $13,377 and topped at $30,000 three times, while 27 Angus bulls set a $12,518 average with a complete clearance where the 72 head averaged $13,055.
Sale topper at $32,000 was the 23-month-old, Santahat W189 (P). The son of Diamond H Taipan T315 (P) weighed 794 kilograms and delivered an eye muscle area measurement of 127 square centimetres and rib and rump measurements of 14 and 12 mm respectively.
Taking home the bull as their only purchase was deBurgh and Margery Joyce, Southend, Theodore.
Commenting on their selection after the sale Mr Joyce said they intended to use him straight away into a group of commercial females.
"We came to have a look at the offering and preliminary inspections netted us a couple of options," he said.
"He was our first selection, he's got many of the attributes we're looking for such as a great underline, terrific skin and coat type and overall balance and capacity.'
Three consecutive bulls fetched sums of $30,000.
First of these was Santahat V501 (P), a 30-month-old son of Yarrawonga S958 (P) purchased by the Atkinson family, Cardona stud, Blackwater.
Weighing 806 kg and delivering an EMA measurement of 129sq cm, the bull's rib and rump measurements were 10 and 7mm respectively.
The next was a paternal half-brother of the same age, Santahat V532 (P) weighing 788 kg with an EMA measurement of 134sq cm and rib and rump measurements of 9 and 6 mm respectively. Taking home the bull was Simon and Myriam Daley, Arrabury, Bedourie.
The third was a three-quarter blood brother to the Arrabury selection in the form of the 30-month-old, Santahat V555 (P) recording a liveweight of 826 kg and an EMA measurement of 130sq cm and rib and rump measurements of 8 and 6 mm respectively.
Purchasing the bull was the Rideout family, Blue Hills, Thangool. The Rideout family ended with a pair for a $29,000 average.
Murray and Loretta Smith, Arm & Dagger Cattle, Kyhber, Augathella returned, taking two Santa bulls for a $17,000 average while TVF Pastoral, Caledonia, Aramac secured four Santa bulls for an $11,500 average.
The Hewitt family, Charvel, Theodore returned, selecting a pair for an average of $23,000, topping at $26,000.
Richard and Sarah Cox, Cracow Station, Cracow signed off on a trio for a $13,667 average, including a Santa Gertrudis bull for $23,000 and a pair of Ultrablack bulls for a $9000 average.
Ray and Dolly Brown, Walloon, Banana took two Santa Gertrudis bulls for a $17,000 average, topping at $20,000 while RF Active, Kaiuroo, Dingo secured the sale opener, a 22-month-old Waco S76 (P) son for $25,000.
The Maudsley family, Waterfall Ag, Goomeri picked up four Santa Gertrudis bulls for a $13,000 average that topped at $18,000.
Winfield Pastoral, Glenwood Park, Hawkwood accounted for four bulls for an $8000 average, topping at $12,000 for an Ultrablack entry.
The top-selling Ultrablack at $18,000 was Hatton W129 (P), a 22-month-old son of Millah Murrah Stallone S279, selling to Bec Scholl, Mundubbera. The bull posted a liveweight of 828 kg and delivered an EMA measurement of 128 sq cm and rib and rump measurements of 15 and 12mm respectively.
Taking five Santa Gertrudis at an average $9600 was the Jenkinson family, Hawkwood.
The Slater family, Chinchilla returned, selecting two Santa bulls for a $19,000 average, topping at $20,000.
Roger and Roslyn Nobbs, Wingara, Moura bought two Santa bulls for an average $11,000 while Rob and Annie Donoghue, Baradoo, Moura also claimed a pair of Santa bulls for a $14,000 average that topped at $16,000.
Steven Elliott, Winton selected the $26,000 23-month-old, Santahat W286 (P) (Santahat R281 (P)).
