An 18 per cent increase on last year's gross marks 2026 Eidsvold Charolais sale

The top selling bulls from both vendors at this year's Eidsvold Charolais Bull Sale are destined for stud duties at two highly-regarded studs.

And, both sets of vendors, Alan and Natalie Goodland, Clare Charolais, Theodore, and Ross and Paula Warren, Elridge Charolais, Gympie, could not be happier.

This year's gross result also put a smile on their faces as it represented an increase of nearly 18 per cent on last year's total.

Buying the sale topper, Clare Van Halen, for $42,500 was the Nobbs family, Cordelia Charbrays, Nobbs Grazing, Moura.

A man of few words, Chas Nobbs said he looked at the bull's data, but chose the bull by eye because of his good conformation.

A stud and commercial producer, Mr Nobbs said the bull would go in with their Charbray stud cows on November 1.

Mr Nobbs' wife, Judy, said they liked the bull because he was soft, quiet and polled, while their son, Phillip Nobbs, added the bull had a good body, good bone and a nice polled head.

Sired by Ascot Kudos and out of Bauhinia Park Anastasia 15, the 23-month-old Clare Van Halen weighed 916kg.

He had P8 and rib fat of 9 and 7 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 144 square centimetres, intramuscular fat of 5.4 per cent and a scrotal size of 42cm.

The Nobbs family bought two other bulls from the Goodlands - Clare Valentino for $20,000, and Clare Viper for $20,000.

Of the 18 bulls offered by Clare Charolais, 18 sold for a 100pc clearance, an average of $17,416 and a gross of $313,500.

Elridge Charolais sold 40 of the 44 bulls offered for a clearance rate of 90.9pc, an average $11,950 and gross $478,000.

In total, 58 of 62 bulls offered sold for a clearance of 93.5pc, a gross of $791,500 and an average of $13,646.

At last year's sale, 64 bulls sold of the 66 offered, representing a clearance of 97pc for a gross of $672,500 and an average of $10,507.

In 2025, the Warrens sold the top-price bull, Elridge Uno, for $23,000 while the Goodlands' top price bull, Clare Utah, fetched $22,500.

Mr Goodland said this year's result was unreal.

"It was really strong with good repeat buyers and new buyers coming, really solid, (I'm) really happy," he said.

Mr Goodland said his wife, Natalie, picked the top-price bull before the sale.

"She picked him as a weaner, he's always been a good calf, just really sound, really thick, got everything that's right about him, (and) a good head," he said.

"He's just been one of those calves that's always stood out right from a weaner and he's just kept going on."

Mr Goodland said he was very happy the bull was going into stud duties.

"That's not why we breed them," he said.

"But to get a family like the Nobbs', who are unreal commercial breeders and breed tremendous bulls themselves - to get someone like that here and buying bulls to go back into their stud herd, their Charbray operation, that's just a tremendous honour for us."

The Warrens' top-price bull, Elridge Vatican, this year was purchased online by the Price family, Moongool Charolais, Yuleba, for $28,000.

The 25-month-old poll bull was sired by Moongool MR S127 and was out of Sirrah Nolene N24E.

Weighing 978kg, he had a P8 and rib fat of 15 and 12mm, an EMA of 132 sq cm, IMF of 7.3pc and a scrotal measurement of 40cm.

Mr Warren agreed with Mr Goodland that it was a fantastic sale, with bulls going to buyers across a large geographical area.

"There were a lot of repeat buyers, which is really encouraging for our sale, but overall just an outstanding result," he said.

"It's excellent to see the support from the stud breeders as well as our commercial breeders that we pay particular attention to breeding bulls for.

"We're just really excited that some lovely people in the Price family have come back and bought another bull off us."

Mr Warren said Elridge Vatican was sired by a bull he had bought off the Price family to add a bit of thickness to their program which he had done.

He said they had admired Vatican for his substance, growth and finishing ability so it was good to see him go back to Moongool.

Overall, Mr Warren said he and his wife were really pleased with how their bulls had come up and performed in the lead-up to the sale and on sale day.

"They were just pretty well on point for what our buyers demand here at Eidsvold," he said.

"We've been doing it at this point for over 15 years at this sale, and we're just pleased to see the result that we got."

Burnett Livestock & Realty agent Paul Hastings said the sale went very well.

"Probably a better average and better clearance than we thought," he said.

"The quality was very good ... they're good bulls that can go straight in the paddock," he said.

"(And) like Ross Warren said at the start of the sale ... to breed a weaner or a bullock, they'll do both jobs."

Mr Hastings said there were a few new faces and plenty of repeat buyers at this year's sale, as well as a bit more action online from NSW.

He said the success of the sale reflected the success of the cattle market because it had been pretty good for weaners, fat bullocks and kill cattle this year.

"So that's probably put a bit more money in the producer's pocket, (meaning) they can do a few ... improvements and ... buy a bit better genetics," he said.
