Yarrabee and Wilamba bulls in high demand at Springsure selling complex
The annual Yarrabee and Wilamba studs, Jambin, operated by the Barlow families witnessed yet another complete clearance of their sale catalogue on Thursday, August 27.
Strong repeat and local support from both seedstock and commercial addresses was evident from the start of the sale.
Classified Santa Gertrudis bulls hit $28,000 on the way to setting a bottom line average of $10,756 for the 37 bulls sold at the Springsure Showgrounds selling complex.
Last year, 34 bulls sold to a top of $30,000, setting an average of $10,852.
When compared to the result attained two years ago, average values have climbed by on average $1492 per head while clearance levels have increased by 8 per cent.
Market pacesetter was the opening lot, the $28,000, Yarrabee Okan 1789.
The 25-month-old by Yarrawonga T802 (AI) (PS) weighed 1030 kilograms with P8 and rib fat measurements of 16 and 12 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 142 square centimetres and intramuscular fat of 6.2pc.
Taking home the bull was Karen Dunlop, Spean Pastoral, Esk. She took home a trio for an average of $14,333.
Ms Dunlop said of her top selection, "I thought he (Yarabee Okan) was a real standout dehorned bull with the length and power that I'm looking for, he's got terrific and outstanding weight for age, tipping the scales at 1040kg at 25 months.
"He's got good bone, combined with exceptional length, impressive thickness, muscling, and an EMA measurement of 142.
"At this stage I'll be joining him mid-October at Spean over my purebred commercial cows".
Next best price was the $24,000 Yarrabee Outpost 1783 (Bullamakinka Rambo R438 (P)) weighing 928 kilograms at 24 months with P8 and rib fat measurements of 18 and 13mm respectively, an EMA of 144sq cm and an IMF measurement of 6.6pc.
Taking the bull as an only purchase was repeat buyer, Dean Carseldine, JDC Holdings, Rockadolla, Theodore.
Making $21,000 was 25-month-old Yarrajay William 368 (PP) (Glenn Oaks Truman T94 (AI) (P)).
The bull weighed 994 kilograms, P8 and rib fat measurements of 17 and 13mm respectively, an EMA of 132sq cm, with an IMF measurement of 7.2pc.
Taking home the bull via AuctionsPlus that was offered by the Boto family, Yarrajay stud, Tanby was Evie Batt, EV Santas stud, Plainby Station, Richmond.
Bulk support for the sale was geographically widespread.
The Brown family, Sleepy Hollow, Goovigen took seven for an average $7571 while Bruce and Carmel Semple, Dysart selected four for a $9250 average.
The Zahl family, Avonmore Station, Alpha also claimed four for on average $8000.
BGM Grazing, Nogun, Rolleston returned taking a trio for a $12,667 average topping at $18,000 for a 25-month-old Bullamakinka M078 (PP) son.
Dean Armstrong, Comet Downs, Comet secured three for an $11,000 average, topping at $15,000.
Also returning were the Roberts family, Raymond, Springsure signing off on a pair for an average $9500 and Jeff Duddy, Collie Blue, Springsure taking two that averaged him $10,000 each.
The Sullivan family, Turkey Creek, Springsure also purchased a pair for a $14,000 topping at $15,000 for the PP entry, Wilamba Ottis 420 (Wilamba Jericho 154 (PS)).
Ottis weighed 923 kilograms, had P8 and rib fat measurements of 10 and 7 mm respectively, and an EMA of 140sq cm with IMF of 4.8pc.
