Karragarra Simmental bulls show operation's consistency and quality
Central Queensland's largest Simmental prefix, Karragarra will stage their annual sale, Wednesday September 23, at the AgGrow Selling Complex, Emerald.
On offer this year will be 107 bulls that involves 80 traditional and 27 black Simmental bulls.
Principals Wayne and Ingrid York, Karragarra stud, have continuously invested heavily in the pursuit and acquisition of top sires, embracing both artificial insemination and in vitro fertilisation programs to mould and manufacture the right article for both central and northern Australia.
According to Mr York, the 2026 sale draft are a younger draft of bulls than previous years but exhibit the same consistency and quality that the operation is synonymous for delivering.
"We're fully focused on delivering a clean coated set of individuals, bred under real commercial conditions, that are even in phenotype and consistent in quality," he said.
"They are reared on grass and run in a large commercial program in central Queensland where they're exposed to the harder elements.
"They're run in big contemporary groups where the best grass converters rise to the top.
"These cattle have been bred, adapted and proven to survive in northern Australia and are selected from a large pool of genetically consistent benchmark quality bulls."
The 2026 team will enter the ring with all current scan data, semen and morphology tests, horn status, and clinical vaccinations including Three Day Sickness, Seven In One, Botulism, Lepto, Vibrio, and Three Germ Blood.
The true testament to the adapted Karragarra program is in the operation's strong repeat clientele and the success they enjoy with Karragarra genetics.
Lance and Stephanie Whitaker recently took out the Champion Pen of Simmentals Infused Steers and the eventual Grand Champion Pen of Steers at the 2026 Burnett Livestock & Realty's All Breeds Steer Sale in Biggenden.
These cattle were all sired by Karragarra bulls purchased from previous fixtures.
"The positivity from victories like this from our repeat commercial customers in both store and prime championships throughout Queensland further enhances our breeding program and the job our bulls are doing out in the real world," Mr York said.
"We don't clip hair, trim feet, or pamper them. It's survival of the fittest from weaning until sale preparation."
Agents for this year's sale are Nutrien and Hoch & Wilkinson and the sale will be simulcast electronically on AuctionsPlus on Wednesday, September 23, from 12pm.
