Repeat buyers dominate JAD Speckle Park and Angus bull sale at Rolleston
Repeat clients were dominant at JAD Speckle Park and Angus stud's third Queensland bull sale on Friday, August 21, where a yearling Speckle Park bull topped the offering.
The Central West NSW stud, operated by Justin and Amy Dickens at Yeoval, is widely-regarded for its longer-running Speckle Park stud, so it came as little surprise that 19 of the 21 registered Speckle Park bulls were in particular demand, averaging $10,789.
In all, they sold 33 of 36 bulls offered to average $8674 at the sale at Rolleston.
In the breakdown, all 10 commercial Speckle Park bulls offered were sold, averaging $7100, while 14 of the 15 Angus bulls averaged $6929.
Last year's Queensland sale saw 58 of 59 bulls sold to 38 successful purchasers for a top price of $30,000, representing a sale clearance of 98 per cent, for a sale average of $10,224.13.
The top-priced bull of the 2026 sale was a yearling Speckle Park bull, JAD Warrior Ace W25 (JAD W25), sold for $28,000 to repeat clients, Byrnside Beef, based at Biloela.
A son of JAD's new sire, JAD The Marshall T87, and out of JAD E11 Miss Jennie R94, the bull sits in the top 1pc of the breed for intramuscular fat, rib and rump fats, and at 17 months old, he featured a raw IMF scan of 7.9pc - the highest of the yearling bulls.
Byrnside Beef also purchased the top-priced bull at last year's JAD sale in Queensland.
Other top prices this year included $26,000 for the Speckle Park bull, JAD Voracious V220 - a son of a JAD-owned New Zealand sire, Maungahina Promise, out of one of their Canadian dams, Silver Tip HWY Elite 03D.
The 23-month-old bull weighed in at 803 kilograms, measured 41cm scrotal size, and scanned 126 square centimetres for eye muscle area, and 7.4pc IMF.
He was purchased by new buyers to JAD, Rainbow Partnership at Rolleston.
There was hot competition for the Speckle Park bull, JAD Vangelis V67 (JAD V67), who was sired by JAD Quistacat Q48, out of JAD 3X Niome N56.
Sitting in the top 3pc of the breed for birthweight and scanning 7.6pc for IMF, JAD Vangelis V67 was purchased by repeat clients, Ravenswood Pastoral, Mingela.
Angus bulls topped at $12,000 for the lot 47 bull, JADA Van Zant V649, who was in the top 7pc of the breed for birthweight, and scanned at 7.7pc IMF, 124sq cm EMA and measured 42cm for scrotal size.
He was sold to repeat JAD clients, the Tyson family at Springsure, who bought four bulls to average $8000.
JAD Speckle Park and Angus stud co-principal Justin Dickens said they had a high percentage of repeat buyers to their stud each year.
"It has been particularly dry in central Queensland, and a number of our existing clients indicated that although happy with their past purchases, they didn't need more bulls this year, so we knew it was going to be difficult this year," he said.
"Given this, we are stoked to have had a 93 per cent clearance, and particularly enjoyed catching up with clients on sale day.
"We look forward to heading up again next year with a better team of bulls again."
