JK Cattle Co sale report: what the top buyers were looking for this year

Brangus snared top price honours at the annual JK Cattle Company's Angus, Brangus and Ultrablack sale at Condamine on Monday, August 3.

Vendors Justin and Kate Boshammer, JK Cattle Co stud, Condamine, witnessed a 96 per cent clearance of their catalogue to end with a bottom line average of $14, 989.

In a dissection of the offering 66 Angus averaged $14,393, topping at $35,000 on two occasions while 17 Brangus set a $17,882 average selling to highs of $40,000 and 12 Ultrablack bulls posted a $14,166 average with a top of $22,000.

In 2025, the sale saw 76 bulls sell for an average of $11,923 topping at $24,000 on two occasions for a total clearance of the offering.

Top seller at $40,000 was the Brangus entry JK Cattle Co, Vincent V519 (P).

The 23-month-old by Triple B Quotation Q210 (PP) weighed 750 kilograms, selling to Sam Whiley and Celine Duggan, YLE Grazing Company, Perola Park, Wallumbilla.

The top seller was one of five purchased by the family for on average $22,000 to head into the 1500 head Angus Brangus breeder herd at Perola Park and Gungary, Surat.

"Our top purchase will go into our Brangus females while the remainder will be used to produce both feeder and heavier ox seasonal dependant, we were looking for growth rate, size and body shape in our male selections," Sam Whiley said.

Ted and Jenny Murphy, Tayglen Station, Dysart, returned securing three Angus bulls for a $31,000 average.

Their $35,000 equal-top-selling Angus bull, JK Cattle Co Vickery V698 (Millah Murrah Rector R53) weighed 863 kilograms at 23 months and joins others sired by Rector R53 and Woodhill Comstock.

"We have been sourcing bulls from the sale since its inception, they're good consistent cattle, the dam lines in these purchases are very similar to those sires that produced some of our winners in the recent Central Queensland Carcase Classic," Mr Murphy said.

"We look for good IMF and EMA data and sound structured cattle, particularly where feet are concerned."

The other entry selling for $35,000 was the 23-month-old, 882-kilogram JK Cattle Co Valdemar V707 (Landfall Mainland Q494) purchased by John and Judy Acton, Tulach Ard, Blackwater.

Trading as Brackloon Grazing, the Acton family secured the opening four Angus entries for an impressive average of $27,500 including three sons of Landfall Mainland for a $27,667 average.

Other features of the sale were the strong return clientele that supported the catalogue and the wide geographical area into which the males found homes.

Tom Rolfe and family, Rolfe Grazing, Springsure, selected four Angus bulls to average $19,000.

Sale regular clients, Stuart and Kira Reddan, Reddan Organic Beef, Bogarella, Augathella, returned to secure a trio for a $18,667 average while the Grummitt and Smyth family, Bogarella, Augathella, also returned selecting another four for on average $18,500.

Another repeat client was the Hafemeister family, Oakleigh, Injune, ending their card with six for an on average $16,667.

This included the top selling Ultrablack entry at $22,000.

The Willis family, Bullamon Plains, Thallon backed last year's purchases with another three Angus for on average $11,333.

Tinderry Pastoral Company, Tindery Station, Quilpie, secured a trio for a $6000 average while the Kirby family, Lochington, Springsure, took a trio for on average $12,667.

Hindmarsh Pastoral Company, Dillalah Station, Charleville, picked up four for a $14,000 average while Alpha based, Vandibeek Pastoral, Narounyah Station, claimed a pair for a $19,000 average.

Jamie and Ally Becker and family, Jamally Cattle Company, Alkoomie, Taroom, took a pair for a $11,000 average.

Dan and Rebecca Radel, DBR Grazing, Burenda, Augathella, secured a sole bull for $18,000 while the Lethbridge family, Yoyo Cattle Company, Yoyo, Taroom, took three for a $9333 average.

Continuing a valued tradition, charity lots were offered at the conclusion of the sale under the Zara's Day banner, in memory of Justin and Kate's daughter.

JK Cattle Company donated three lots of Diamantina Angus and Diamantina Grass Fed beef, which raised a total of $9100 for the Steve Waugh Foundation and the Royal Flying Doctor Service Queensland Section.
