Repeat clients seeking 'doing-ability' push Sara Park Angus to top price thrice

Repeat clients with an eye for phenotype and doing-ability drove Sara Park Angus and Duddy Angus, Pinkett, via Glen Innes, to a solid average at their annual bull sale on Friday, July 31.

Of the 57 bulls offered, 52 sold for an average $10,826, topping three times at $20,000.

Equal top-price buyers Cameron and Jane Lee, Lesmar, Roma, Qld, secured a grandson of Mogck Entice in Sara Park Entice V89 by Sara Park Taurus T8, from a Sara Park Lowan.

The bull weighed 856 kilograms with a 125 square centimetre eye muscle area, 7.6 per cent intra muscular fat and a scrotal circumference of 40cm.

The two-year-old bull's estimated breeding values (EBVs) included a moderate birthweight of +3.9kg, positive growth with +49kg at 200-days, +100kg at 400-days and +130kg at 600-days, with +6.5 for EMA and +19 for milk.

The family also bought another Taurus T8 son in Sara Park Entice V73, 934kg, with 125sqcm EMA, 7.8pc IMF and a 44cm scrotal measurement at $18,000.

They purchased a third sire from Jeff and Kathryn Duddy for $14,000 in Duddy Rob Roy V14 by Musgrave Rob Roy from Murdeduke Jedda N122 with top 10pc 200 day growth at +65kg and milk at +24, with top 5pc EMA at +13.8sqcm and CWT at +101kg.

Cameron Lee said the new sires would enter a pure Angus herd with progeny grown out for the feeder market.

"We have been very happy with our Sara Park bulls," Mr Lee said.

"And the Duddys are a great family to deal with."

Another repeat customer, Andrew and Megan Morrice, Corella Farming at Currabubulam bought three bulls for an average $17,333, including one of the top-priced offerings for $20,000 in Sara Park Identity V104 by Milwillah Identity P219 from a proven daughter of Booroomooka Evident H594 in Sara Park Wilcoola L4, the dam of Taurus T8 who sired the other two top selling lots.

Identity V104 weighed 901kg with 128sqcm EMA and 6.9pc IMF with a 42cm scrotal.

His carcase weight EBV sits in the top 10pc of the breed at +89kg, with a respectable EMA figure of +7.4 with top 10pc growth at 200-days of +63kg, top 20pc growth at 400-days of +105kg, and top 30pc of +131kg at 600 days.

The new purchase will go over pure Angus cows with calves sold as weaners or feeders depending on the season.

"We just like the look of these bulls," said Mr Morrice.

The other top-selling sire, another Taurus T8 son in Sara Park Entice V107, sold to Herb Duddy's brother Neville and will walk across the Pinkett Road to his new home where his role will be to produce paddock bulls for the local market.

Entice V107, the youngest sire in the draft by a few weeks, came from a good young cow in Sara Park Rosebud S30, a daughter of GB Fireball 672.

Mr Duddy also bought Duddy Fireball V120 by GB Fireball from a daughter of Booroomooka Bando C415, produced by Robert and Indie Duddy, with positive growth and fat for $10,000.

Volume buyers with six sires to hand, averaging $11,000 and topping at $14,000, were long-term repeat clients CQ Pastoral, Baryulgil on the Clarence, who have purchased at Sara Park for the past 10 years.

Of their new bulls, to go over crossbred cows with calves sold at Grafton as weaners and yearlings, was the well-figured Sara Park Paragon V54 by Booroomooka Paragon T42 from a daughter of Milwillah Identity P219.

His EBVs included top 1pc EMA at +15.6, top 20pc milk at +22, and top 20pc for self-replacing index figures at +253 and $405 for Angus Breeding Low Feed Cost.

The sale was conducted by AWN Squires, Inverell, with APL Group, while StockLive handled the online traffic.
