Strong support from repeat and first-time buyers helped to bolster the results for the 25th Myanga Angus spring bull sale held on-property at Moondance, in Chatsbury, on Thursday, August 6.

For their quarter-century milestone sale, the Dunne family offered 36 bulls, of which 33 sold for a clearance rate of 92 per cent. These bulls averaged $8230, topping at $17,000.

These figures compared favourably to the 2025 result, in which 75pc of the 40 bulls offered were cleared at an average of $7366, topping at $15,000.

Myanga stud principal Stephen Dunne said he was pleased with the result, particularly the appetite their clients had for the yearling bulls offered.

"These yearlings were essentially the next step in Myanga's genetic progression, representing the next generation of bulls we'll be offering," Mr Dunne said.

He said bulls produced out of the Myanga Wilcoola dam line fared well on the day, as did sons of Ardrossan Southern Cross S362.

"S362 is quite an all-rounder, with lowish birth weight, reasonable growth and good carcase data. His sons were well supported throughout the sale," he said.

The $17,000 top price bull of the sale arrived in lot 7, when Myanga Topgun V141 was secured by long-term Myanga client, Harry Divall, Narambulla Partnership, Carrick.

Mr Dunne said this bull stood out when the bulls were being catalogued for the sale.

"His structure, great depth and width of body, and his matching set of EBVs made him a good overall package," he said.

The Divall family has been producing purebred commercial Angus for about 50 years across several properties in Goulburn and beyond.

With assistance from his livestock manager Ben Crockford, Mr Divall oversees the entire program, which entails producing animals suitable for feedlot entry at 480 to 520kg.

He said Topgun V141 had been a standout in the yards when he visited the Dunnes to inspect the sale bulls.

"He kept catching my eye. I've always liked the look of the Topgun bulls," Mr Divall said.

"A few of this bull's figures were pretty outstanding. He's got plenty of muscle, hindquarter, length and structural soundness.

"He has good bone structure with plenty of weight and more room to grow. We want him to help take our herd to the next level."

Mr Divall has been buying out of the Dunnes sale for several years and runs 10-15 Myanga bulls at one time.

"One of the biggest ticks with the Myanga bulls is that they're produced on rugged country, which is similar to the country we farm," he said.

"We like sound bulls with more natural growth corresponding to the country they graze on."

Topgun V141 was Mr Divall's sole purchase at this year's sale.

"We always support the Myanga sale and we were prepared to pay a bit more this year as we were only after one bull," he said.

"Stephen and his team are incredible guys to work with. I'm grateful to them for the work they do in producing these bulls. They're stand-up people; honest, open, and extremely humble."

Mr Dunne said while there was bidding support from Queensland and Victoria on the day, all bulls catalogued for the sale ended up going to new homes in NSW.

"It was pleasing to see that the majority of the bulls were purchased by our existing clients, which demonstrates the faith they have in our program," he said.

"We also had new buyers turn up to the sale, several of whom made a purchase."

The volume buyers on the day were the Anderson family, Wicklow Properties, Roslyn, who purchased five bulls to average $7600.

Others who bought several bulls on the day were the Hadley family, Bathurst, who secured four bulls to average $8000, while the O'Brien family, O'Brien Sentinel, Taralga, took home three bulls to average $7333

The sale was conducted by Nutrien Ag Solutions and Elders, with John Palmer from Nutrien Ag Solutions Moss Vale performing the auctioneering duties. AuctionsPlus provided the online interface.
