Inaugural Gympie Brangus and Ultrablack Female Sale top heifer eclipses competition

A top-price heifer caught more than a few bidders' eyes at the inaugural Elders Invitational Gympie Brangus and Ultrablack Female Sale, selling for over $8000 more than her nearest competition.
Eleven vendors offered a total of 37 females at the Gympie Saleyards on Saturday, July 4.
Of the 37 registered females offered, 31 sold for an 84 per cent clearance, a $4419 average, and a sale gross of $137,000.
The top-priced heifer, Sandy Banks Victoria, offered by the Jackson family, Sandy Banks Brangus, Tiaro, sold for $16,000 to the Wordsworth Cattle Company, Lower Wonga.
The 20-month-old heifer was sired by Triple B Revolver R291 and out of Stutzview 107.
The second-top-price heifer, Willbra Wynter, offered by Peter and Sara Williamson, Willbra, Goomborian, sold for $7500 to Needco Pty Ltd, Townson, through AuctionsPlus.
Following the stud sale, 171 commercial females were offered, of which all sold for a 100 pc clearance, a $1929 average, and a $329,810 gross.
The top-priced commercial lot of five weaned number six heifers, offered by Stutzview Brangus Stud, Owanyilla, sold for $4100 a head.
The top-priced heifer vendors Angela, Shane, and Stevie Jackson said the result more than exceeded their expectations.
"We're very excited and very happy," Stevie said.
"It's the first year, so we're very excited. We definitely didn't think she was going to make that much. It's a really good result.
"She's a good heifer, and it's good to be rewarded for it."
The Jacksons offered two head at the sale, which both sold for a 100 pc clearance and a $10,750 average.
A Sandy Banks heifer offered by the Jacksons at the BLING Brangus sale held at CQLX earlier in the year made $11,000.
They chose to participate in the Elders Invitational Gympie Brangus and Ultrablack Female Sale to support the inaugural sale.
"She [Sandy Banks Victoria] would normally be one that we'd keep at home," Stevie said.
"The only reason why we didn't is because we wanted to support Mitch and the sale, and the locals."
"There were a couple of good quality heifers for the first year of the sale, and hopefully more breeders get excited for it next year," Mr Jackson said.
The Jacksons said Sandy Banks Victoria impressed potential buyers, and she was the ideal type of female the stud aimed to produce.
"Her appeal and structural correctness [stood out]," Stevie said. "It's very, very hard to find a fault. She's got plenty of volume, she's a nice type, quiet, and very hard to fault structurally, I think."
Elders Murgon livestock agent Mitch Jackson, who spearheaded the sale, said he believed it had made an impressive debut.
"We came up with the idea late last year and started trying to get some advertising out and get vendors that were interested in being a part of the sale to contact us," he said.
"That's how we catalogued our stud lots, and then we tried to focus on getting some really high quality commercial lots to enhance the sale, and it was great to see how well that was supported."
Buyers from across the country purchased cattle at the sale, including a bidder from Victoria.
Both stud and commercial buyers were present among the bidders, including bulk buyers Wattle Grove Speckle Park, Tamworth, NSW, who purchased eight head for an average of $4375, and Needco Pty Ltd, Townson, who purchased eight head for an average of $3563.
