Excellent support for an impeccable lineup of bulls had Speriby North Angus stud principals Arthur and Sandra Cox feeling elated at their 28th annual sale held on-property at Wallies in Bolivia on Friday, May 22.

A 100 per cent clearance was achieved for the 56 APR bulls offered on the day. The average price paid per head was $13,071 for a top of $31,000. A full clearance was also achieved at the 2025 sale, in which 73 bulls sold to average $14,001, topping at $27,000.

At the conclusion of the sale, Mrs Cox said to those in attendance, "Wow! What a sale!. Thank you very much from our family."

"Looking out in the crowd on the day, we were very grateful to see faces that have supported us for more than 40 years, as well as the new faces," she said.

Sandra Cox said it had been been tough times in Bolivia of late.

"We're in the midst of a green drought, with no growth. Like many in the region, we've been having to offload cattle. For this reason, it was wonderful to see the confidence shown in the Speriby genetics."

The top price of the sale came about in lot 4 when Holbrook-based Dunoon Angus made the $30,000 winning bid on the 19-month-old AJC V923.

Dunoon stud principal Jock Harbison said he bid up on AJC V923 because he was a "really good all-rounder on data, with a wonderful temperament and great structure".

"The Speriby North herd is commercially focused, and the bulls they produce are known for their growth and carcase quality," Mr Harbison said.

"He had a wonderful combination of calving ease, growth, carcase, marbling, docility, and his pedigree was a good fit for our herd," he said.

Mr Harbison said they'll get him settled in at Holbrook, then join him to a cross-section of cows and heifers for Dunoon's spring calving.

"I have confidence that he'll get the job done. Dunoon is known for producing bulls with high carcase quality and he will help us to keep going down that line. We all enjoy eating nice meat, and genetics and environment determine eating quality. Our feedlot gives the cattle a wonderful environment and if the genetics are there the meat quality will come out every time."

This was Dunoon's first purchase from Speriby North, with Mr Harbison saying that AJC V923 came up in a "fairly tight set of criteria" when he searched bulls for sale on the Angus Australia website.

"We're always looking for different genetics, and he had the right structure and type. He's also very quiet and temperament is of paramount importance to us."

The catalogue was packed with high-indexing, high intramuscular fat, low birthweight, high-growth bulls, which predominantly remained in the north, selling to repeat Speriby North clients, while bulls also sold to buyers in southern and western NSW and up into southern Queensland.

Two of the Speriby North sires with sons in the sale are number one and two for Angus traits for the $indexing of the breed, and eight sires are in the top 50 for calving ease. In the 2026 draft, 45pc of the bulls offered were in the top 10pc for IMF, and 26 of the 56 bulls were in the top 5pc of all indexes.

The volume buyer on the day was Holley Holdings, Glen Innes, which purchased nine bulls at an average of $9444.

Also buying in volume was the Hollingworth family, Titibar Pastoral, Glen Innes, who have been Speriby North clients for more than three decades. They bought five bulls at an average of $9000. Rogers Livestock, Armidale, also took home five bulls at an average of $16,400.

JDW Enterprises bought four bulls at an average of $15,000, and the Coldham family, Ben Vale Pastoral, Emmaville, bought four bulls at an average of $12,500.

The sale was conducted by Colin Say & Co.
