The Nickolls family's Bull Oak Well stud had a stellar result at their 15th annual sale on Monday, producing a stud record price of $45,000.

An impressive average of $12,360 was also achieved, with 61 bulls sold out of 63 offered at The Basin selling complex at Willalooka.

Both the top price and average were much higher than last year's $16,000 top and $9558 average.

Bull Oak Well Vezina V48 was this year's sale topper and record breaker.

It was knocked down to World Wide Sires beef specialist Tim Wright.

Mr Wright, who is based in Shepparton, Victoria, said there was plenty to like about Vezina 48.

"It's a combination of phenotypes, the data set and calving ease," he said.

Mr Wright said the bull would be used as a walking herd sire by one of his clients, and semen would also be collected for sale through World Wide Sires.

The 20-month-old bull weighed in at 780 kilograms and was one of the first sons of Pine View Vezina sold at auction in South Australia and some of the first in Australia. It was out of Bull Oak Well Melody S57.

Mr Wright said Pine View Vezina demonstrated a lot of good breeding traits, which was one of the reasons he was prepared to bid up on Vezina V48.

Bull Oak Well principal Heath Nickolls said there had been plenty of interest in Vezina V48 prior to the auction.

"I picked him out as something pretty special quite early on and we've used him already and got semen from him," he said.

Mr Nickolls said Vezina 48 was exceptionally balanced for EBVs and type, which made it stand out as a stud sire.

"While the new genetics we had in there with Vezina was very well received, we also had some very good home-bred bulls," he said.

"Paratrooper sons were well received, along with Reeboks, people liked them for their hindquarter and style.

"I think it's the most even line-up of bulls we've put up. I'm very proud of what we have presented."

Mr Nickolls said it was the first time the stud had sold a bull to a semen company.

"Tim Wright is great to deal with, as well as being a ripping fella," he said.

Mr Nickolls said it was pleasing to see the confidence that's being demonstrated in the cattle industry.

"It's great to see the confidence in the cattle job and to see that people have confidence in what we do," he said.

"We're selling to people who are running family businesses so it's humbling they're choosing us to buy their genetics."

The sale was conducted by Spence Dix and Co and PPHS, with Jono Spence as auctioneer.

Mr Spence described Bull Oak Well's record breaker bull as being very sound and very complete, and backed up with excellent data.

He said overall the Bull Oak Well line-up was exceptionally even.

"I listen to a lot of other people who visit every field day and the general consensus was that Bull Oak Well cattle were probably the people's choice as the most even line," he said.

As well as some new faces, return clients were happy to bid up including Emu Springs, Tintinara, buying five to $14,000, and Eura-Carla, Padthaway, taking three to $14,000.

Napier, Willalooka, was the volume buyer, taking seven bulls to $12,000.
