Cooma buyer secures top-priced Poll Dorset ram at Ashcharmoo sale
Solid competition from repeat buyers and several new bidders helped lift prices at the Cooper family's fifth annual Ashcharmoo Poll Dorset ram sale, held on-property at Marulan on October 25.
In total, 24 of 36 Poll Dorset rams sold to a top of $2000 and averaged $1220, with stud principal Justin Cooper pleased with the result.
The $2000 sale-topper was Ashcharmoo 240102, purchased by first-time buyers at the sale, Tom Burke and Sons from Cooma.
The single-born ram was sired by Springwaters 220604 and weighed 137 kilograms, while scanning an eye muscle area of 44.49 square centimetres and a fat depth of eight millimetres.
The young sire also had a successful show season, winning the champion Stockscan performance ram at the NSW Dorset Championships at Cowra as well as taking home the champion ram at the Crookwell, Goulburn and Yass shows and champion ram, interbreed champion and the supreme sheep of the show at Taragla.
The Burke family purchased an additional ram, paying $1800 for Lot 8 in the sale.
Regular buyers, Inverolachy Pastoral from Lake Bathurst secured four rams for an average of $1400, while JD, AE and JM Fisher, Currawang, also took home four rams, averaging $1300.
Other volume buyers active during the sale were SC and AM Keith, Glen William, Golspie, who bought six rams, averaging $1000, and repeat purchasers DA and DL Keith, Goulburn, who bought three rams for an average of $1000.
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Goulburn with Matt Campion, Nutrien Stud Stock, as auctioneer.
