Warren Point Poll Hereford Bull Sale hits high of $17,000 for Techno son

While the buying panel was selective in their purchases, good bulls made solid money at the 56th Warren Point Poll Hereford Bull Sale held at Warren Point, Mitchell, on Friday, October 10.
In all, 56 bulls were offered on the day, of which 42 head or 75 per cent were cleared. These bulls averaged $8047, topping at $17,000. In comparison, at the 2024 sale, 46 of 50 bulls sold for a 92pc clearance, to average $6630, topping at $18,000.
Warren Point stud principal Chris Lethbridge said that while he would have liked to have sold more bulls, he "couldn't complain" about the result.
The high mark of the sale came in lot 32 when the $17,000 winning bid on the homozygous polled Warren Point Unalterabull U221 was made by the Rumbel family, Supple Whiteface stud, Guyra.
This son of Merawah Techno R046, out of Warren Point Fancy Q160, was one of two bulls the Rumbels bought on the day at an average of $13,000 per bull.
Ben Rumbel described Unalterabull U221 as a "big, strong bull with plenty of meat and good phenotype".
"He has beautiful depth and colour, with a nice sire's head, and good strong bone. He's the type of bull that will fit well into our polled cow program. He'll help correct a few little things with our breed-on feeder types," Mr Rumbel said.
While the Rumbels have been attending the Warren Point sale for several years, this was their first year making purchases there.
"We found a couple that suited what we're trying to do in our program this year. Chris has used some of our genetics in the past, so it was good to return the favour."
He said the lineup for sale was good, commercially relevant cattle.
"The bulls had good bone and structure. They were soft and could walk."
Two bulls reached the second top price mark of $13,000 for the sale.
In lot 41, the polled Warren Point Undetected U269 was secured via AuctionsPlus by Jolisse Past Company, Mitchell, while a homozygous polled herd bull in lot 50, Warren Point UPS U296, was snapped up by Bim Struss, JJ7 Partnership, Mitchell.
Mr Lethbridge described these two bulls as "structurally sound and ready to go out and work".
The top volume buyer on the day was David and Nell Brook, Brooke Pastoral Company, Birdsville, with Charlie Weyman-Jones purchasing 10 bulls at an average of $6000 on their behalf.
"The larger, traditional Warren Point bulls with bone met with strong demand and sold well," Mr Weyman-Jones said.
Other volume buyers on the day were the Burey family, Springhill, Amby, who bought four bulls at an average of $6500, while AJ Lanfranchi, Warilda Station, Langlo, bought four bulls at an average of $8250.
Mr Lethbridge said a couple of first-time buyers were active on the day, along with many repeat buyers.
"We've had one family buying bulls here for close to 60 years."
Sale agent Cyril Close, TopX Roma, said while the clearance rate was "tight," there was great past buyer support on the day.
