NSW operations do battle for Brangus breed's top selling bull of the season

Breed seasonal highs of $100,000 were achieved at Friday's annual Lunar Brangus and Ultrablack Bull Sale, on property outside Comet.

After an electrifying start the sale hosted by Brad and Briony Comiskey and family of Lunar stud results in a 97 per cent clearance and average of $14,621 for the 66 of 68 bulls sold.

Last year 55 bulls set a $10,510 average to sell to tops of $19,000 on two occasions for a total clearance.

Pace setter at $100,000 was the 27-month-old, Lunar Urgent U285.

The homozygous polled son of Pheasant Creek Mako M150 weighed 854 kilograms posted muscle scans of 11mm and 8mm, respectively for P8 and rib fat and 138 square centimetres for eye muscle area and an intramuscular fat reading of 5.9 per cent.

Securing the top seller was Hewitt Agribusiness, Bylong, NSW.

Hewitt Agribusiness also claimed the next two high sellers at $65,000 and $35,000 for a $66,667 average.

Losing bidder on the top seller was Palgrove stud, Macintyre Station, Bukkulla, NSW, operating via phone.

At $65,000 was the 25-month-old, Lunar Uptake U290, a maternal half to the top seller weighing 874 kilograms posted muscle scans of 10mm and 8mm, respectively for P8 and rib fat and 137 square centimetres for eye muscle area and an intramuscular fat reading of 6.1 per cent.

That bull was offered in a three quarter share and full possession arrangement.

The other Hewitt purchase was the $35,000 Lunar Uplift U409.

The 26-month-old by Oaklands Johnny came in at 832 kilograms with muscle scans of 7mm and 5mm, respectively for P8 and rib fat and 132 square centimetres for eye muscle area and an intramuscular fat reading of 4.7 per cent.

Swans Lagoon Station, Millaroo were the days major supporter selecting 18 head for a $8389 average while James Curran, Warwick Park Pastoral Company, Warwick Park, Middlemount purchased four for on average $9500.

Three bulls were selected by Barry Johnson, Luthrie, Longreach online for a $10,000 average.

Also selecting a trio was the Daniels family, Stonybrook, Fernlees for a $10,667 average.

Another three went to Mark and Joyce Comiskey and family, Connemarra, Springsure for a $12,000 average.

Francis Zahl, Balmy Hills, Springsure also signed off on three for a $11,333 average,

Steve McLucas, Roper Valley Pastoral Company, Middlemount took four at an average $14,500.

David and Julie McCamley, Palmal stud, Dingo took the $32,000 Lunar U Got The Look U265, aged 26-months.

Palmal will be the home of a pair for a $27,500 average.

Brad and Nicole Saunders, Pheasant Creek stud, Wowan picked up a pair for a $17,000 average topping at $22,000 for a Pheasant Creek Quacken Q82 son.

Glen and Loyola McKinlay, Callandoon, Springsure signed off on a pair for a $25,000 average.

These topped at $26,000 for a 27-month-old by the homebred retainee, Lunar Omar.

Adrian Esmond, Emerald bought three to and with a $11,333 average.
