Galaxy Park's annual Prime SAMM and White Suffolk ram sale at Tintinara saw improved averages and clearances on last year, with buyers based both locally and interstate competing strongly.

Of the offering, 37 of 50 White Suffolk rams sold to an average of $994 and a top of $1700, while 15 of 26 Prime SAMM rams sold to an average of $1340 and topped the sale twice at $2000.

Stud principal Michael Gale said the result was a pleasing lift on 2024.

"It was a lot better than last year. Last year was a bit flat," he said.

"We offered less than last year in both breeds, (and) averages and clearances were up."

Last year, after a lead in marred by an ICU stay for Michael, 26 of 79 White Suffolks averaged $812, while 7 of 30 Prime SAMMs averaged $914.

The top-price SAMMs in this year's sale came at lots 63 and 64, both making $2000 and knocked down to I&J Marshall, Ouyen, Vic.

Both were sired by Galaxy Park 220083. Lot 63 recorded a wool micron of 18.8, with a comfort factor of 99.5 per cent and a post weaning figure of 6.71 on Australian Sheep Breeding Values, while lot 64 had a micron of 19.9, comfort factor of 99pc and PWT of 4.6.

The volume buyer of SAMM's was JP Davies & Co, Tasmania, purchasing seven rams to a top of $1600.

The White Suffolk draft topped at $1700, with Wait Farming, Tintinara, selecting lot 5, by Galaxy Park 220154, which had ASBVs of 154.9 on terminal carcase production, 17.83 on PWT, 2.87 on post weaning eye muscle depth.

White Suffolk support came from Fingerpost Family Trust, Kingston SE, with eight rams to $1300, and Mt Boothby Pastoral, Tintinara, with ten rams to $1200.

Mr Gale says there is set to be some exciting bloodlines come through in the next couple of years.

"We purchased a Valma ram last year with a 6.04 for EMD, which sits him in the top 10 for EMD in Australia," he said.

"We also purchased a Yanko ram who's in the top 20 for post-weaning growth rates, with 24.7. The Valma ram will have genetics on the ground next year and the Yanko ram the year after."

Mr Gale was pleased with how the sale team had presented given local conditions.

"Pastures have struggled, and the stock have struggled a bit getting condition on," he said.

"Sale rams were in really good condition, given the season they've had. They presented really well I thought."

Nutrien auctioneer Richard Miller said the result was good given the season..

"The clearance was up on last year, which was pleasing to see," he said.

"The Tasmanian client bid up strong to get the average up, and there were a couple new buyers on the day for the White Suffolks.

"I thought the rams presented very well. They'd been paddock run, the ASBV figures were very good, (and were) very even in type. People were able to buy them from front to back for quality."

The sale was conducted by Nutrien.
