Janmac records full clearance of over 100 rams in 'overwhelming' result

Janmac Poll Dorset and White Suffolk stud wrapped up one of its most successful on-property sales at Goroke on Wednesday.
Janmac stud co-principals Grant and Bryce Hausler said the family was "overwhelmed" at the success of the sale.
The stud achieved a full clearance rate and the largest number of registered buyers ever recorded in 21 years of auctions.
"We couldn't believe it," Grant Hausler said.
"It's been a challenging 12 months, and to present 181 rams and have them all sell is pretty overwhelming."
In the breakdown, 144 Poll Dorset rams sold to average $1806, while 36 White Suffolk rams averaged $1269.
The top-priced ram was Lot 9, a Poll Dorset ram, which sold for $7000 to Henry and Damian Cameron, Athlone Poll Dorset and Southdown stud, Penshurst.
The 14-month-old ram was praised for being well-muscled and well-structured.
"He was just a really complete sheep," Mr Hausler said.
"He's the type of ram that you know is going to leave some very good quality sheep.
"But there was nothing in particular that stood out about his figures."
A total of 50 buyers registered to purchase on the day, which was a step up from the 43 registered buyers last year, and a significant increase from the 38 buyers recorded the year prior.
The buyers came from Victoria and South Australia with representation from St Arnaud through to Naracoorte, SA, and Lucindale, SA.
"We don't overlook the fact that we have a very strong group of regular clients who have been with us through the whole journey," Mr Hausler said.
"We like to think that it's down to the quality of our stock.
"We invest heavily in sires, and I think the rams presented really well."
He said the family had been very apprehensive about the sale in the lead-up to auction day.
"We know the lamb industry is firing along beautifully, but there were just so many unknowns," he said.
"Everyone has had a difficult 12 months.
"We didn't know how many ewes were still out there."
