NSW stud buyers spend up at Cardona Santa Gertrudis sale at Blackwater

Santa Gertrudis bulls sold to $50,000 at the Cardona Annual Sale at Blackwater on Tuesday, September 30.

Vendors, the Atkinson family, Cardona stud, Blackwater and their invited vendors, the Wolff family, Canowindra stud, Emerald saw classified bulls top at $50,000, resulting in a bottom-line average of $12,782 and a clearance at auction of 94 per cent for the 78 bulls sold.

Last year, 73 bulls sold for a 97 per cent clearance, selling to a high of $115,000 to average $15,034. Buying support came from a wide geographical area across Queensland, NSW and the Northern Territory.

Market pace setter was the $50,000 Cardona Z219; a 23-month-old weighing 984 kilograms, delivered a P8 and rib fat measurement of 9 and 12 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 151 square centimetres and an intramuscular fat recording of 5.2pc and an average daily gain of 1.36kg/day.

Sired by Cardona Punter P197, Z217 was purchased by the Yulgilbar stud, Baryulgil, NSW.

Steve McLucas, Roper Valley, Middlemount, outlaid $28,000 for the next lot in the offering, Cardona Z143.

The son of Cardona Thompson T213, aged 23 months, weighed 962 kilograms, delivered a P8 and rib fat measurement of 12 and 15 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 144 square centimetres and an intramuscular fat recording of 5.4pc and an average daily gain of 1.33kg/day.

Roper Valley claimed a pair for a $22,000 average.

Brad and Georgie Vickers, Delmore Downs, Alice Springs returned to take eight head for on average $8250.

Chandler Rural, Kyneton, Barcaldine another to return selecting six to average $11,333.

Alan and Julie Hay, Eka, Jericho purchased a pair for a $10,000 average while Len and Sue Bode, Percol Plains, McKinlay took with them seven for a $11,143 average.

Trader Wilson, Kaiuroo, Dingo was another investor returning to take a pair for a $12,000 average.

Andrew Doering, Spring Creek stud, Tansey selected a 22-month-old Cardona Versace V179 son for stud duties for $20,000.

Craig Hindle, Bullamakinka stud, Toowoomba was also active returning to take two for an average $14,000.

Late in the catalogue, the Anderson family, Brookside stud, Tamworth, NSW secured a $22,000 polled son of Drensmaine Illusion I144.

Allan and Kelly Walker, Clearview, Bell claimed a pair for a $17,000 average, topping at $26,000 for the Canowindra entry, Yeti Y95 (Cardona Santa Cruz S231).

Long term supporters, the Menzies family, The Bend, Taroom returned taking four for a $18,500 average topping at $24,000 for another of the Versace sons on offer aged 22-months.

Boyd and Mandy Curran, Tallyrand, Longreach signed off on a trio for a $16,000 average while the Daandine Pastoral Company, Gwambegwine, Taroom purchased three for a $17,667 average.

Another long-term client, the Fedderson family, Whitdale, Rubyvale, picked up four to average them $11,500.

Errol Moller, Edwinstone, Jericho took a pair for a $20,000 average and in the process secured the $26,000 Drensmaine Extol E222 son, Cardona Z67.

Taking three each were the Walker Cattle Company, Gillespie, Blackall for a $12,667 average and David Stuart, Dilkera Station, Nebo for a $10,000 average.

Stuart Apel, Auburn River Pastoral, Chinchilla, secured four for a $7500 average.
