Good return support at Lach River Merinos as top ram goes to new buyer

There was good return support at the Lach River Merinos on-property ram sale at Darbys Falls on September 25.

All up, 30 of 32 rams sold to a top of $9500 to average $2625.

The top-priced ram, Lach River 24013, sold to a new buyer who asked to remain anonymous.

By Westray 148, a ram Lach River purchased in partnership with Hollow Mount in 2023, Lach River 24013 recorded a fibre diameter of 19.1 micron, 3.9 micron standard deviation, 16 per cent coefficient of variation, and 99.3pc comfort factor.

He also weighed 110 kilograms with a 40.5-millimetre eye muscle depth and 6mm fat.

Richard Chalker, Lach River, said the polled ram had plenty of size, good structure, and quality wool.

Birrack Partnership, Fairholme, bought six rams averaging $1750, while long-term return clients LM, MJ and LA Cosgrove, Greenethorpe, selected five averaging $2650.

The Cosgroves' top pick was Lach River 240127 for $3500.

D and H Flannery, Mount View, bought four rams averaging $1438.

Also buying four was Belcan Partnership, Canowindra, with a draft averaging $3188. The operation's top pick was Lach River 240214 at $4000.

Westview Pastoral Co, Quandialla, averaged $2625, also for a draft of four.

Mr Chalker said it was a good sale with plenty of return support.

He said some of his major buyers had retired and were no longer seeking rams, but he was still pleased with the result.
