Karragarra Simmentals hit $40,000 on the way to achieving a record gross

A total clearance increased numbers of bulls and a lift in averages, together with a record-breaking gross, were the big takeaway items at last Wednesday's annual Karragarra Simmental Sale at AgGrow Selling Complex, Emerald.

Karragarra principals Wayne and Ingrid York and family saw the sale average values lift by $3883 over their 2024 result with an extra 27 bulls sold.

All 105 bulls averaged $15,505 sold to a top of $40,000 for a total clearance and a record gross of $1.628M with their bulls destined for a wide geographical area of Queensland.

Many attributed the prolonged, vigorous demand throughout the sale to the consistency, strength and quality of the bulls on offer.

Interestingly, there was a buyer preference for traditional Simmental phenotypes, with that category setting an average of $16,618.

For the first time black phenotypes were offered with 29 of these selling to a high of $26,000 to average $12,586.

Market topper for the sale was the $40,000, 20-month-old homozygous polled, Karragarra V748.

The son of Karragarra Sanchez weighed 832 kilograms, had P8 and rib fat measurements of 12 and 8 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 146 square centimetres and an intramuscular fat of 5.3pc.

Taking home the top seller was Matt Kirk, Ticoba stud, Mundubbera.

Ticoba will be the home of a pair for on average $30,000.

Next best at $34,000 was Karragarra Victory.

At 18 months, the son of Lucrana Legend weighed 800 kilograms, had P8 and rib fat measurements of 15 and 10 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 128 square centimetres and an intramuscular fat of 5.4pc.

He sold to Ken and Kerry McKenzie, Yaralla, Blackwater. Yaralla will be the home of two selected at an average $28,250.

Three major players took nearly 30 per cent or 30 head of the yarding.

Heading the list with a haul of 13 head were Westmoor Pastoral Company, Southbend, Injune. These were purchased for an average $15,615, topping at $18,000 on four occasions.

Bill and Kara Kettle, Prairie, Capella returned, taking 11 head for an average $16,545, selling to highs of $22,000 twice.

Sheahan Land and Cattle, Tweedsmuir Station, Richmond, acting through Queensland Rural, Charters Towers, selected seven for on average $14,714, setting a top of $18,000 twice.

Top selling black entry was the $26,000 19-month-old, Jarravale Epic V2.

The son of OMF Epic was a homozygous black registered bull weighing 872 kilograms and from a Lavarta Legacy sired dam. Taking home the youngster was Janet Newlands, Eden Hills stud, Upper Pilton acting through Les Lee, Leegra, Silverleaf.

Paringa Gold, Penaddi, Capella were among many return clientele. This time, they secured five for an average of $13,200.

Taking five for a $16,400 average was the Donaldson family, Moonstone, Alpha. These topped at $26,000.

Jeff and Karen Russell, Echo Hills, Springsure, were also active, securing five to average them $17,300, topping at $20,000.

Chas and Judy Nobbs, Cordelia, Moura bought two black males for a $17,000 average while returning for traditional phenotypes was John Roberts and family, Karella, Springsure selecting a pair for a $20,250 average.

Tim and Lynette Olive, Rhodesia, Comet picked up a pair of black bull for $21,500 average for a top of $23,000.

Darren Gaw, Ronlee, Clermont took a $27,500 30-month-old polled son of Karragarra Rambo.

Gareth Laycock, Biarra Valley Simmental stud, Esk secured the services of the $25,000, Karragarra U842, aged 22-months.

Skyview Farming, Glenidol, Clermont took a pair for a $19,000 average for a top of $24,000 for a 19-month-old poll son of Lucrana Legend.

Another returnee taking more genetics was Andy and Madonna Douglas, Springfield, Mitchell, picking up another pair for a $16,000 average.

Last Pastoral, Crownthorpe selected the $20,000 while another to return was the Beddows family, SJ and KLH Grazing, Hivesville picking up a single entry for $12,000.

Bassalt Grazing, Soda Valley, Hughenden bought three for an average $10,000.

Heart 2J Cattle, Spring Creek, Jericho signed off on a trio for a $10,667 average.
