The annual Jandebrey White Suffolk ram sale conducted by Geoff and Tania Stock drew strong buyer support at Maitland last Wednesday, with all 56 rams sold to an average of $998.

Stud principal Tania Stock said they were very pleased with the outcome.

"It was a solid result, with prices reflecting a consistent line of rams right throughout," she said.

"Coming off the back of a very dry season, we were proud of how the rams presented, and clients commented on the standard."

Last year, 49 of 72 rams sold to a top of $1900 and averaged $878.

A top price of $1500 was paid by long-time client Malcolm Redding for lot 5, a son of Wingamin 202707, noted for his muscle depth, clean features and structural strength.

Roger Johns, S.T. Johns Pty Ltd, Maitland, was a strong supporter, securing 12 rams to a top of $1400.

The rams are destined for the family's Glendinning Station, managed by son Nick Johns, in southwest Vic where they'll be used over composite ewes.

"This was our first time buying from the Stock family, although I've followed their breeding for a long time," Mr Johns said.

"I wasn't planning to buy any, but I was so impressed with their rams last week that I thought I better get a handful."

He had high praise of the Jandebrey breeding program.

"The Stocks run a first-class operation, and their breeding has just kept improving, (producing) nice long, clean-bodied rams with really good genetics," Mr Johns said.

HK Goodall Nominees, Coonalpyn, was also a notable volume buyer taking home 10 rams to a top of $1000.

Mrs Stock said a highlight of the day was achieving a full clearance.

"People clearly still have confidence in the lamb market, which is promising for the seasons ahead," she said.

Auctioneer Tony Clarke, Wardle Co Maitland, described it as a strong result.

"They were a very consistent line (of rams), as they always are.

"Geoff and Tania never shirk the issue with their terminal sires - they always spend big money on quality, especially at the Adelaide sale, and it shows in the consistency."

He noted the size of the rams was always a talking point.

"All the clients I know who've bought them say they're some of the bigger sheep they've seen anywhere, and that's something we pride ourselves on," Mr Clarke said.

Most buyers were return clients from the local district, with one new buyer, the Johns family, also joining the list, alongside long-standing clients from Coonalpyn.

The Stocks continue to focus on breeding true-to-type Suffolks with length and muscle, producing paddock-reared rams designed to thrive in challenging conditions.

'Particularly after a tough season, we want clients to know our rams will perform in those environments,' Mrs Stock said.
