The Yanko's Poll Merino ram jet-setting to South America after purchase
A ram from The Yanko Merino and Poll Merino stud, Jerilderie, is destined for South America after being bought earlier this month.
The Yanko sold the 15-month-old Poll Merino ram for $25,000 to Argentinian studs, Cabo Blanco Merinos and Estancia Rio Pico Merinos, at the South West Slopes Merino Field Day at Harden on Tuesday, September 2.
It was the highest price paid for a ram from The Yanko.
Bred from Moorundie Poll W015, the ram, YKO 240973, had a 19.4-micron, 3.0 standard deviation, 15.3 coefficient of variation, 99.6 per cent comfort factor, and Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) in the top 10pc for clean fleece weight as well as a Wool Production Index of 182.
The ram has attracted interest everywhere he has visited this year, The Yanko stud said.
The stud also noted that he was very correct and square, with a long stapled and lustrous wool that is well marked across the entire animal. And that he has exceptional skin and tested as a pure poll when his genomic test was taken.
Early in the day, the visitors from Argentina identified the ram as a potential sire.
The ram had been listed to be sold as lot two at The Yanko's ram sale.
Due to the urgency to get the ram to quarantine and back to Argentina for their joining season, Ian Cameron made the tough decision to sell him on the day.
Lot two in The Yanko's ale will be replaced by a reserve ram, YKO 240980, which was initally to be retained by The Yanko. The stud said he was a true stud sire, with purity and excellent conformation and a very safe data set.
