Meaty ram for lamb operation attracts top price at Narranmore Poll Dorsets

Long-term repeat clients were strong during the Narranmore Poll Dorset ram sale at Elong Elong on Friday, September 12.

The top-priced ram was Narranmore 177, which was purchased by Phil and Rebecca Redding, Alto Rural Pty Ltd, Dunedoo, for $4800.

The 123-kilogram ram had an index figure of 1115.

Mr Redding said he was a big solid ram with plenty of meat, which would go into their operation where they run 2000 first-cross ewes to produce second-cross lambs sold through the Dunedoo saleyards.

The Reddings purchased a total of five rams for an average of $4040.

He said they had been buying from Narranmore for more than 20 years and they had performed well for them.

"We get the top money for these lambs through the saleyards most of the time," he said.

Christine O'Leary, Narranmore, said the top-priced ram was a standout.

"He had plenty of meat and stood up really well," she said.

The underbidders on the top-priced ram, Doherty Bros, Goolma, secured the second top-priced ram which was Narranmore 97 for $4400.

The 120kg ram had an index figure of 1066.

Doherty Bros purchased three rams in total for an average of $3933.

There were several volume buyers including AM and RM Glencross who purchased ten rams for an average of $1040.

AE Lincoln and Co, Birriwa, who purchased eight rams for an average of $1150.

NJ and CA Royal, Gollan, purchased five rams for an average of $1880.

Overall, 80 of 109 Poll Dorset rams sold to the top of $4800 to average $2049.

Ms O'Leary said they were happy with the sale result and how the rams were presented.

"We had lots of repeat buyers as per usual," she said.

"Lots of our clients have been topping the sales at their local saleyards."

The sale was conducted by Milling Stuart, Dunedoo.
