Good support for Crawford Angus bull sale with volume buyers active

Full clearance and a solid average made for a strong Crawford Angus annual sale, held on-farm at Tumoramma on Friday.
The Graham brothers' family stud offered 33 bulls at the auction, averaging $8909 and hitting a top of $15,000.
The top-priced bull was Crawford V6, purchased by Coots Creek Angus, Gungahlin, one of the five bulls it purchased on the day.
By Hills View Sam S13 and out of Crawford Wilcoola T1, Crawford V6 ranked in the top 10 per cent of the breed for his 400- and 600-day estimated breeding values with +116 and +148, respectively.
Crawford V6, 17-months, was also in the top 10 per cent for rib fat with +2.6 and rump at +3.3. He also ranked in the top 20pc for calving ease daughters at +6.5, docility at +30, intramuscular fat at +4.4 and claw angle of +0.66.
Two bulls were equal-second top price, with Crawford U509 and Crawford V12 both selling for $14,000.
Crawford U509, 25-months, was purchased for Boraig Pty Ltd, Bayview, and was ranked in the top 5pc for scrotal circumference with +4.9.
He was also in the top 20 per cent for 400-day weight at +109, 600-day weight at +136, mature cow height at +10.1, and Angus breeding low feed cost index with $396.
Crawford V12, 17-months, was purchased by Julong Partnership, Tumut. He ranked in the top 5pc for eye muscle area with +12.3 and leg angle at +1.04.
It scanned in the top 15 per cent for 200-day weight at +61, 400-day weight at +110, carcase weight at +73, front feet angle with +0.76, Angus breeding index at $248 and Angus breeding low feed cost index of $410.
Volume buyers for the sale included Braeburn Pastoral, Brungle Creek, who purchased six bulls at an average of $8833; Coots Creek Angus who purchased five bulls at an average of $9600; and Onga Pastoral, Muttama, who purchased four bulls averaging $8250.
The sale was conducted by Elders Emms Mooney, Oberon, and AWN Wilks McKean, Wagga Wagga, with company director Joe Wilks as auctioneer.
