Repeat buyers continued to support the Glenfinnan Prime Lamb Genetics sale on Friday, September 12, throughout the stud's first sale after being acquired by Bogo Genetics last year.

Moderate birthweight, high growth rams were on the top of buyers' agendas with the sale reaching a top of $3800, with 121 of 126 rams selling for an average of $2080.

The sales top-priced ram purchaser last year, Samantha Flannery, Solfarina Run, Young, went back-to-back to secure the top-priced ram again in Glenfinnan 244312.

The twin born, July-drop ram, by Felix 190275, recorded a birthweight LAMBPLAN figure of 0.3, while having a postweaning weight (PWT) value of +18.9 and a postweaning eye muscle depth (PEMD) figure of +3.6, not placing him in the top 10 per cent of the breed.

He continued on the high ranking figures while being in the top 20pc for his weaning weight (WWT) figure and lamb eating quality (LEQ) index with figures of +11.6 and 154, respectively, while also being in the top 5pc for his dress percentage figure (DRESS) of +3.6 and terminal carcase production (TCP) index of 164.

The ram also placed in the top 1pc for his lean meat yield (LMY) figure of +5.5.

The Young-based operation also purchased the second top-priced ram of the draft Glenfinnan 244032, for $3600.

The June-drop, twin-born ram was sired by Glenfinnan 233669 and ranked in the top 30pc for his WWT figure of +11, while his PWT figure of +17.8 and LEQ index of 153, placed him in the top 20pc.

He ranked in the top 5pc of the breed for his PEMD, DRESS, LMY and TCP with values of +4.0, +3.6, +4.8 and 161, respectively.

The operation also purchased an additional three rams for an average of $3320.

Several volume buyers stepped into the action with AJ and SL Faulder, The Ranch, Yass, taking home eight rams to a top of $3000 for an average of $2350.

Steve Faulder, The Ranch, Yass, said the family operation had been purchasing from the stud for the past six years.

"The rams have proven to work well for us," he said.

Mr Faulder said he joined the rams to 3000 Merino ewes with their progeny being sold as suckers through the Butt Livestock and Property circuit lamb sale each year in November.

"We wean them and sell them early, because in our country we get very short springs," Mr Faulder said.

Other volume buyers included Ledgerton Pty Ltd, Yass, who took home 18 rams for and average of $1488, while Iando Pastoral, secured 13 rams to a top of $2600, for an average of $1830.

Mundongo Pastoral Trust, Tumut, purchased eight rams for a top of $2400 to average $1825, while MFA Elsegood purchased six rams for an average of $2933 and five rams were knocked down by AM and ML Fowler, Monteagle, near Young, for an average of $2160.

General manager Matt Crozier said he was very pleased with the results.

"It was great to see many of the existing buyers that dealt with the Hayes family for years come back and continue on with the stud," he said.

"They obviously know the sheep and it's very humbling to us that they feel that we can take the stud forward and progress.

"It's great to see some new clients too."

Glenfinnan Prime Lamb Genetics stud manager Austin Grace said he could not have asked for a better result.

"With the transition of the stud it's really promising to see people come back and follow the stud," he said.

"The product the Glenfinnan brand has is really competitive on the market, so it's an excellent result."

The sale was conducted by Butt Livestock and Property, Yass, with Phill Butt as auctioneer.
