Vendor turned buyer comes out on top at 2025 Heartland Santa Gertrudis sale

A long-time vendor of the 2025 Heartland Santa Gertrudis sale in Roma on Wednesday, September 10, found himself on the winning side of the buyers gallery.
Nine out of the fourteen vendors in the Heartland Breeders Group offered cattle at the sale, with previous vendors Cam and Rosie Drynan, Whitalby stud, Bogong, Dirranbandi, taking home the top-priced bull at this year's sale.
Under the hammer, 47 of 57 bulls sold for an 82 per cent clearance and a $9191 average.
An additional lot sold post-sale, bringing the clearance rate up to 84 per cent, for an $9250 average and an overall sale gross of $466,500.
Three females were offered, all of which sold, for a 100 per cent clearance and a $7500 average.
Overall, including the lot sold post-sale, 50 out of 60 cattle sold for an 83 per cent clearance and a $9520 average.
For comparison, at the 2024 sale, 54 out 64 bulls sold, an 85 per cent clearance, for an average of $8574 and a gross of $463,000.
The top-price bull in 2025, Jazmaree V758, offered by the Seawright family, Jazmaree Santas, Comet Downs, Injune, was purchased for $28,000 by Cam and Rosie Drynan.
He was sired by Hardigreen Park Wow P20.
Usually a vendor at the Heartland sale, 2025 was the first time Cam Drynan had purchased a Jazmaree bull.
"They're normally a good run of bulls every year, as a previous vendor for this sale, so I thought they looked good," Mr Drynan said.
"He's the whole package to look at, and then he's good on paper as well, so he ticked all the boxes for us."
As a stud owner, Mr Drynan said Jazmaree V758 would join his Whitalby stud herd at Bogong, Diraranbandi.
"We normally produce about 20 bulls a year," he said
"[The new bull] will go into stud sire duties, and we'll hopefully get some straws from him and put him to work."
Vendor Peter Seawright said Jazmaree V758 was his favourite bull he offered.
"He's full of meat and got plenty of bone - his sire was a very good size," he said.
"I'm happy that Cameron and his wife bought him, and hopefully he does well for them.
"Out of all my bulls, he has been my favourite out of that drop of calves.
"He's always been a standout for me, just with his size of body."
The top-priced heifer, Beefwood Tuscany T15, offered by the White family, Beefwood Santa Gertrudis, Forest Grove, Wallumbilla, was purchased for $8500 by the Seawright family, Jazmaree Santas, Comet Downs, Injune.
PJH Livestock & Property contributed an extra $1500 to the proceeds made on the sale of Beefwood Tuscany T15 to round her sale figure up to $10,000.
The money made from the sale of Beefwood Tuscany T15 was donated to the RFDS to support rural mental health services in honour of the late Sharon Seawright.
PJH livestock agent Steven Goodhew said this year's Heartland sale attracted both new and returning buyers, with bulls sent to a diverse spread of areas.
"We're very happy with the sale," he said.
"We had a good roll-up of clientele.
"The bulls have gone from sort of Injune, back into NSW, through into the Central Highlands, and west to Longreach, so we've had a good spread on the bulls.
"I think there was a very good draft of bulls presented, and while we didn't have a 100 per cent clearance, it's still a good result."
Bulk buyers included Jordan Cleland, Wallumbilla, who purchased five lots through Stocklive for an average of $8000.
CJ and CM Coggan, Norwood, Injune, purchased four lots for an average of $9000, and Rosehearty Grazing, Koonong Downs, Muckadilla, also purchased four lots for an average of $10,000.
