Rams share top honours at Avondale Poll Dorset sale, eclipsing previous prices

Strong support from buyers old and new helped push prices at the Avondale Poll Dorset 11th annual on-property ram sale, held on-property at Gilgandra on Wednesday, September 3.
Rams sired by Avondale, Springwaters and Tattykeel rams shared top honours, with five rams reaching the top price on the day.
The Mudford family, Parkdale, Gilgandra, purchased equal top-priced ram Avondale 186-24 for $1650, and a total of four rams to average $1487.
A June 2024-drop by a Springwaters ram, Avondale 186-24, weighed 113kgs at sale, with a scan of 36.48 square centimetres eye muscle area (EMA).
At the fall of the hammer, 89 rams sold from 91 lots on offer, to average $1352.
Averages rose by more than $110 from 2024, with 89 rams sold under the hammer from 91 lots to an average $1352. The top price of $1650 was up by $150 on the previous year, and rose by $250 from 2023.

Volume buyers Jeff Foran and family, Malabar, Gilgandra, secured nine rams averaging $1233, headed to bolster the Foran's self-replacing Merino flock.
Vendors Scott and Sandra Chandler thanked repeat buyers and first-time buyers for their support, noting the success of the day for both buyers and vendors.
The sale was conducted by CPS Thomas Ballhausen Irvine, Dubbo, with Bryce Thomas and Wes Thomas as the auctioneers.
