Red Angus genetics in demand, bull averages rise by 52pc at Toowoomba sale

Demand for Red Angus genetics at the Power of Red Sale in Toowoomba was so strong that all lots were cleared and bull averages rose by 52 per cent.

It was a full house with not a spare seat at the Toowoomba Showgrounds Equestrian Centre on Saturday, September 6.

All 21 bulls sold to average $13,571 and top at $23,000, while all six females sold to a high of $9000 and average of $5833.

In the semen, all 10 lots were cleared with straws averaging $212.02/straw.

The sale grossed $331,025.

In comparison, the 2024 sale saw 21 of 26 bulls sold to a top of $14,000 and average of $8897 while seven of nine females sold to $9000 and averaged $4857.

The top-priced bull in 2025 was lot 23, Round-Em-Up Revenger V101, offered by David and Ashleigh Hobbs of Molong, NSW.

Revenger V101 sold for $23,000 to Ben and Sally Sweetland, Samari Plains, Roma.

The 16-month-old son of Kingslane Revenger R73 and Claremont Red Never Give Up had an eye muscle area of 114 square centimetres when he was only 14 months of age, paired with an intramuscular fat of 6.6 per cent and a scrotal size of 37cm.

He was in the top 20pc or above for six traits and top 15pc or above for all three indexes.

Ms Sweetland said he was an all-around sire.

Round-Em-Up and Moorwatha Red Angus offered the top female, Round-Em-Up Dina V36.

She sold for $9000 to Warren, Melissa and their son Harry Kopp, Oaklands Red Angus, Widgee.

She was 15 months, by Round-Em-Up The Night P012 and out of Round-Em-Up DINA R005.

Another sale highlight was the auction of Royal Queensland Show grand champion Red Angus bull, GK NCJ Red Valyrian V1, offered by Kirrily Johnson-Iseppi and family, GK Livestock.

He sold for $19,000 to Colin and Rhondell Partington, Balancer Cattle Co., Harlin.

The 20-month-old was by Red Wheel Stark 67G who the Partingtons wanted to secure genetics in.

"Kirrily Johnson-Iseppi and family are well known for breeding the very best Red Angus cattle and genetics, which we will blend with our handpicked Red Angus and Gelbvieh cattle to produce superior performing Balancer cattle," they said.

"This bull will play a major part in our genetics program."

Bidding was competitive with buyers logged in and ringside from South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, and across Queensland.

Melissa George of Kenmore was the volume buyer, securing three bulls for a total of $42,000, averaging $14,000.
