There were two breeds competing in the any other breed section this year - Durocs and Hampshires.

The Blenkiron family continued their strong showing, taking out best of breed with a Hampshire boar.

The best of breed boar - Gumshire Thunder R986 - was sired by Gumshire Thunder P304 and was out of Gumshire Ann N280.

The best of breed weighed 102 kilograms at 142 days of age, with an average daily weight gain of 718 grams and fat depth of 13 millimetres.

Gumshire also won reserve junior champion with another Hampshire - Gumshire Thunder R768.

The reserve junior champ was also sired by Gumshire Thunder P304 and was out of Gumshire Ann M917.

A new exhibitor at the Adelaide show won reserve champion boar with a Hampshire.

Jason and Samantha Bates run Stockinpiggle Farm Produce, with their business' name a cute play on words on the NSW town they come from - Stockinbingal.

They brought their four-year-old son Hugo, who helped out with handling despite his young age.

"We went to the Sydney show for the first time this year and got best of breed Hampshire," Mr Bates said.

He was encouraged by the South Australian breeders to come over the border for judging, and took up the offer.

"I had thought about Adelaide before and then when I met the Adelaide Show family at Sydney, I learnt a bit more about the Show and they encouraged me," he said.

"It's a great show - nice and relaxed."

Stockinpiggle drove 12 hours to come over to SA and brought a team of 10 - a Berkshire boar, four Hampshire boars, a Hampshire sow and four Hampshire gilts.

Mr Bates runs a true paddock-to-plate business.

His purebred Hampshires and Berkshires are run all outdoors on pasture from farrow to finish.

Stockinpiggle also raise chickens, sheep and beef, run a butcher shop 20 kilometres from the farm in Cootamundra and a food and wine bar called Bah Bah Food & Wine by Stockinpiggle, 100 metres from the butcher shop.

"All the proteins sold in the bar are raised by us," Mr Bates said.

Stockinpiggle took out reserve champion sow at Adelaide.

In the sow judging, the Davis family's Aroora Enterprises stud at Murray Bridge won both junior and champion sow with a Duroc.

Aroora Wilhelmina R146 was sired by Aroora Converter N12 and was out of Aroora Wilhelmina L473.

The sow weighed 87kg at 138 days of age, with an average daily weight gain of 630 grams and fat depth of 10mm.

Judge John Singh, Bangalow, NSW, said the Duroc sow impressed with her length.

"She's in really good Show condition, it's how I like to present my pigs," he said.

Gumshire won reserve junior champion sow with Gumshire Ann R1010.
