Consistency recognised throughout the draft at Springwaters Angus bull sale

For a young stud still evolving, one frequent comment throughout the sale barn was on the consistency of the bulls on offer at the Rowley family's Springwaters Angus bull sale, held on-property at Corcorans Plain, near Boorowa, September 1.
After being established in 2017, the stud held its fifth annual bull sale with a mix of repeat and new purchasers securing bulls.
The sale reached a top price of $15,000, with Springwaters Rector R53 V24 purchased by Ross Rigano, Leongatha, Vic.
The 17-month-old son of Millah Murrah Rector R53, from an LD Capitalist daughter, Springwaters Dream P1 weighed 807 kilograms and measured a scrotal circumference of 44 centimetres.
The young sire was suitable for heifers with his gestation length estimated breeding value of -8.6, placing him in the top six per cent of the breed.
He ranked highly in his carcase traits while being in the top 5pc for his rib fat figure, the top 7pc for his rump fat value and the top 14pc for his eye muscle area EBV with values of +3.1, +3.3 and +10.2, respectively.
The volume buyer throughout the draft was Lugano Pastoral Company, Rugby, who took home three bulls to average $6000.
Repeat purchaser James Cotter, Symonston, secured two bulls for an average of $7000. Mr Cotter said he had been purchasing bulls from Springwaters for the past five years for their 170 Angus cow operation.
"The bulls have a great temperament, they're very quiet," he said.
"They're early maturing with plenty of carcase."
Mr Cotter said heifers were retained, while the steers were grown out to 400kg to 500kg and aimed for the feedlot market.
Overall, the sale reached a top of $15,000, with 30 of 35 bulls sold for an average of $7500, while the remaining five bulls sold immediately after the sale.
Springwaters stud co-principal Dane Rowley said the stud was still in its infancy and developing clientele, with several new clients securing bulls.
"It was good that bulls sold far and wide," he said.
"It's great for us as we were super happy with the draft of bulls, so it was good that we can get them out, get them onto some new farms as well as some buyers that have been coming back for five or six years."
The sale was conducted by Elders Young, with Aaron Seaman as auctioneer.
