Full clearance for Isla Angus as bull buyers bid up for weight by capacity

Isla Angus at Coonabarabran recorded a full clearance of 41 sires during its annual sale on Friday, with repeat clients and new buyers looking for growthy bulls with weight by capacity.
The sale averaged $11,390 to top at $25,000, twice.
Neighbours and long-time repeat clients, the Meier family, Ulamambri, once again paid the top money for Isla Umperoopa U100, by Millah Murrah Paratrooper P15, from a daughter of Exar Upshot.
Among his estimated breeding values, the two-year-old presented with top 20 per cent breed figures for calving ease daughters at +6.4 with top 25pc gestation length at -6.2 and birthweight at +2.5.
Isla Angus prides itself on calving ease, with only one assisted birth out of 175 first-calf heifers in the 2023 drop.
The Meier family have purchased the top-priced sire four years in a row, and once again were the volume buyer with four bulls averaging $20,250, to go into their pure Angus program.
They also paid $20,000 for Isla Unspoken U60, by Texas Iceman, from a daughter of Sydgen Enhance, and paid the same money for Isla Rocketman U3, by Millah Murrah Rocketman, himself a son of P15, showing scrotal size in the top 20pc at +3.1.
Equal top-priced bull Upalinna U104, another son of Paratrooper P15, with top 20pc EBV figures for CED at +6.3, sold online to first-time clients the Webster family, Goondiwindi, Qld, who purchased three bulls in total to average $13,666.
The family run commercial Angus and Angus cross cows on two properties, Kondar and Bullamakinka, and grow out progeny to feeder weight.
"We have been following Isla Angus for a few years based on their commercial success in weight gain trials," said Ian Webster.
Repeat Queensland clients Michael and Maggie Caskey, Revilo Pastoral at Mitchell, bought two bulls to average $13,000 and top at $15,000 for Isla Revolution U6, by Brooklana Revolution R33, going back to Paratrooper P15.
Revilo grows out calves to feeder weight and will put their new Isla bulls to Angus-cross females to bring low birthweight and high growth to the program.
"These bulls have an ability to add weight by capacity," said Mr Caskey.
Pee Dee Creek Angus at Bellbrook on the Macleay purchased three bulls to average $9666 and top at $11,000 for Isla Patrol U21, by Warrawee Patrol P29.
Isla Angus co-principal Lisa Doolan said she and her husband Ambrose were thrilled with this year's result.
"They are impressive to look at and we are proud of them all," she said.
The Isla Agus sale was conducted by Davidson Cameron and Co, Quirindi, with Tom Tanner as selling agent, while AuctionsPlus handled the online bidding.
