Yarrabee Wilamba sale result up on last year, stud secures top price

The Barlow family, Yarrabee and Wilamba studs, Jambin, witnessed a complete clearance of their sale catalogue on Thursday, August 28, with strong local support from both seedstock and commercial addresses.
Classified Santa Gertrudis bulls hit $30,000 on the way to setting a bottom line average of $10,852 for 34 bulls at the annual Yarrabee Wilamba Bull Sale at Springsure.
It was an improvement on 2024 when 92 per cent of the offering, or 34 bulls, sold to an average of $9264. The top on that day was $32,000.
The sale topper in 2025 at $30,000 was the 23-month-old homozygous polled, Yarrabee Nicko 1731.
Sired by Bullamakinka M078 he weighed 910 kilograms with a P8 and rib fat measurements of 12 and 8 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 123 square centimetres and intramuscular fat of 5.2pc.
Taking home the bull via StockLive was Andrew and Fiona Bassingthwaighte, Yarrawonga stud, Wallumbilla.
Next best at $22,000 was Yarrajay Versatile 359, a paternal half to the top seller with a weight of 810 kilograms, P8 and rib fat measurements of 11 and 7 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 124 square centimetres and an intramuscular fat measurement of 5.2pc.
Taking the 25-month-old was Bendigo Grazing Company, Bendigo Park, Cloncurry.
Two entries made sums of $20,000.
First of these was Wilamba Nashville (Bullamakinka P12) selling to BGM Grazing, Nogun, Rolleston.
Nashville, a two-year-old, hit the scales at a weight of 908 kilograms, P8 and rib fat measurements of 12 and 10 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 143 square centimetres with intramuscular fat measurement of 5.2pc.
The other was Wilamba Nile 355 (Cardona TulsaT47), selling to Dean Carseldine, JDC Holdings, Theodore.
Nile, aged 23 months, recorded a weight of 808 kilograms, P8 and rib fat measurements of 10 and 8 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 133 square centimetres and an intramuscular fat measurement of 5.3pc.
BGM Grazing signed off on five for an average of $13,200 while JDC Holdings took a pair for an average of $13,500.
Stewart and Joy Hamilton, Wathonga, Eidsvold accounted for three at an average of $10,667, topping at $16,000, while the same number was purchased by locals, the Roberts family, Raymond Cattle Company, Raymond, Springsure for a $11,667 average and top of $14,000.
The Speed family, Redrock Trading Company, Redrock Station, Comet also claimed a trio for a $6000 average.
The top-selling purebred commercial bull at $15,000 was a son of Cardona Tulsa T47.
At 23 months he sold to Lana Pastoral Company, Cowley, Springsure.
Hitting the scales at a weight of 872 kilograms, the sectional topper delivered P8 and rib fat measurements of 13 and 10 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 141 square centimetres, intramuscular fat measurement of 5.6pc.
Lana Pastoral purchased a pair for an $11,500 average.
The Fairweather family, Rimrock, Rolleston selected a pair for on average $10,000 while Cameron Fowler, Coulston Lakes, signed off on a Bullamakinka M078 son early in the offering for $12,000.
