Demand for high growth and performance clears offering at Coolie Angus

Buyers sought well packaged bulls with high growth rates at the annual Coolie Angus bull sale, near Merriwa, on Friday.
All 40 bulls sold to a top-price of $24,000 to average $12,750.
Anthony, Libby and Wendy James, secured the top-priced bull, Coolie Capitalist U241, for $24,000.
Son of LD Capitalist 316 and out of Millah Murrah Brenda L26, the 24-month old bull weighed 854 kilograms with a scrotal circumference of 41 centimetres.
He scanned nine millimetres and 12mm over the rib and rump, respectively, along with 122 square centimetres eye muscle area and 7.7 per cent intramuscular fat.
Temperament, conformation, 600-day weight and genetics, with a particular focus on the dam line, were top of Mr James' list.
The family run one of the oldest commercial Angus herds in the district, which started in the early 1950s.
Mr James said they had always purchased stud bulls and were mindful not to line breed.
They target the weaner and feeder market, chasing premiums depending on the season, and surplus heifers are sold to restockers.
The bulls will be joined to 500 head in early October with calves on the ground during the first week of July.
They also purchased the second top-priced bull, Coolie Trooper U146, for $22,000.
Sired by Millah Murrah Paratrooper R116 and out of Coolie Flower N100, the 24-month-old bull weighed 798kg with a 44cm scrotal circumference, 7mm rib fat, 11mm rump fat, 122sq cm EMA and 6.5pc IMF.
Toocoona Pastoral Co, Wingen, bought the top-priced yearling bull, Coolie Goalkeeper V19, for $20,000.
Son of Baldridge SR Goalkeeper and out of Millah Murrah Ela M6, the 17-month old weighed 684kg with a 41cm, 10mm rib fat, 12mm rump fat, 110sq cm EMA and 7pc IMF.
Toocoona also purchased Coolie U151 for $8000.
Volume buyer Clint Austin, Ron Potter Farms, Cassilis, secured five bulls to a top of $16,000 to average $12,800.
Mr Austin sought well packaged bulls with a focus on high calving ease and 400-day weight.
He runs 1200 cows, predominately Angus and a few Speckle Park, targeting the feeder market.
"We have a feedlot [so] try to finish everything ourselves," Mr Austin said.
"We aim to feedlot finish at 16 to 18-months at 22kg carcase weight."
Coolie stud manager Jamie Edmonds said he was pleased with the sale, which was strongly supported by new and return clients.
Bill Frazer and Sons, Dubbo, bought two bulls to average $14,000.
Les Parsons, Aberdeen, secured two bulls to average $14,000.
Godolphin Australia Pty Ltd, Aberdeen, purchased three bulls to average $12,666.
