The Moore Park Angus twilight sale at Pinkett via Glen Innes on Thursday, August 14, sold yearling and two-year-old sires to strong and consistent bidding.

Repeat beef producer clients dominated the selling ring, and there was a full clearance of the 23 V bulls to average $11,478 and top twice at $18,000.

Of the 15 U bulls offered, 14 sold to average $10,200 and also a top of $18,000 twice.

Moore Victor V675V, by GAR Transcendent from a Murray Power Tool, 816 kilograms at 16 months, was the first of the yearling sires to make the best sale price of $18,000.

Presenting with an overall average daily weight gain of 1.56kg, with 11-millimetre and 8mm of fat on the rump and rib, respectively, he recorded a 118 square centimetre eye muscle area, 37cm scrotal circumference and 7.3 per cent intramuscular fat. This latter figure translated to his estimated breeding values, with eye muscle area in the top 10pc and IMF in the top 3pc for the breed.

His heavy grain and terminal sire indexes are in the top 20pc.

He was purchased by repeat client, Tacoma Grazing, Monto, Qld, who also bought a top-selling two-year-old bull, another son of Transcendent in Moore Park 209, 876kg at 23 months, with top 20pc birth weight and EMA EBVs while excelling in the breeding indexes to the top 5pc for heavy grass and grain.

Another yearling Transcendent son in Moore Park V2, from Moore Park Q53 by Ayrvale Bartel E7, also topped the bidding charts on $18,000.

This sire was purchased by repeat client Signature Beef, Clermont, Qld, with its own vertically integrated supply chain and a commercial interest in carcase performance.

Weighing in at 770kg at 18 months, he exhibited 1.32kg/day weight gain, 13mm and 10mm rump and rib measurements, respectively, with a 117sqcm EMA and IMF of 7.5pc. His EBVS showed top 5pc for IMF, top 10pc for Angus breeding index and top 20pc for low feed cost index.

"We think Moore Park are doing an awesome job," said Dave Angus from Signature Beef, who also purchased another yearling Transcendent son, V49, for $16,000.

"They are like us in that they breed for good quality beef. We have had great success with their previous bulls."

Ribbon-winning commercial Angus producers and repeat client, Alt Bothers, Glen Innes, purchased the other top-selling U bull, the 23-month-old Moore Park U174, by RR Endeavour 9005 from a Moore Park daughter of Wattletop Ann.

This bull weighed 906kg, 42cm around the scrotum, and recorded 1.22kg ADG, 13mm rump and 9mm rib fats, along with 7.7pc IMF.

His EBVs showed top 5pc for birth weight and calving ease, top 20pc for carcase weight while his Angus Pro index rates in the top 10pc.

Stud principal Tom Williamson, with his wife Jane and children Tommy and India, also enjoyed success this year, entering for the first time and winning the champion carcase, grain fed, at the World Angus Forum Teys Shootout at Tamworth. They also scored wins in the grass-fed category at Beef Australia 2024 in Rockhampton, followed up by the best grass-fed striploin at the 2024 branded beef awards in Brisbane.

This second on-property sale and third overall annual bull sale for Moore Park was hosted by Colin Say and Co and Nutrien Ag Solutions, Glen Innes, while StockLive handled the online bidding.
