Young breeders strict instructions to secure top price female at Supple

On their way out the door Toogoolawah-based siblings Chelsea and Daisy Burton, Qld, left strict instructions for their father Allen, on what to do during the Supple Whiteface sale, held near Guyra on Tuesday, August, 12.
"Please bid on this heifer for us dad," the siblings said.
After rearranging his day, Mr Burton followed through with the girl's request, securing Supple Denise V104, the top-priced female on the day for $6500 via AuctionsPlus.
The heifer's dam Supple Denise 96, was no stranger to producing sale-topping progeny, also being the mother of this year's Dubbo National Poll Hereford Show and Sale equal top-priced bull, Supple Updated, who sold to Bermuda Hills, Glen Huon, Tasmania, for $20,000.
By Yalgoo Reply S215, the 15-month-old female placed in the top six per cent of the breed for her scrotal size estimated breeding value of +3.8.
Weighing 400 kilograms, she recorded 400-day weight, 600-day weight and milk values of +69, +98 and +22, respectively, all in the top 20pc.
She also recorded a mature cow weight value of +93, placing her in the top 15pc and a carcase weight figure of +25 placing her in the top 25pc.
The girl's mother Michelle Burton said although the two youngsters do have a droughtmaster stud Yimin DC Droughtmasters, alongside their parent's stud Yimin Droughtmasters, the pair branched out into Herefords after their grandmother Roweena Burton ran commercial whiteface on the family property in the past.
"Their grandmother, who bought them their very first Hereford, is so excited to see our Herefords back on the property," she said.
"When they found out about the auction they said 'can we have a look?', and went straight to the heifer draft and look at them and they picked that one up straightaway.
"It's actually their money, we were only acting as agents on their behalf.
"We have not had Herefords in the Brisbane Valley for quite a few years, so when we went to the Queensland Hereford camp and every show we have done in this area, everyone has come up to us and said 'oh my god, they're back'.
"So we are aiming to bring the Herefords back into this south east Queensland zone."
Mrs Butron said the new addition to the other nine females within their stud Cressbrook Creek Poll Herefords from Callaway Poll Herefords was planned to be joined by Callaway M222 Triumph T018, with the aim to exhibit her with a calf at foot at Beef 2027, in Rockhampton.
In the female draft of the catalogue, Hereford youth members were very active, taking home three of the four heifers offered, with the stud offering a discount for the female portion if youth members were successful purchasers.
One of the heaviest bulls in the catalogue, Supple Uturn also rose to the top of the sale reaching $16,000, by long-term client Lesley Taylor, Moonan Flat.

The horned bull sired by Glendan Park Quarterback Q027 son weighed 982 kilograms at 27-months-old, with a scrotal circumference of 44 centimetres, with the second largest eye muscle area in the catalogue of 135 centimetres squared.
He recorded P8 and rib rump scans of 17 millimetres and 11mm, respectively, while measuring an intramuscular content of 6.4 per cent.
The higher IMF content was carried through to his estimated breeding values with a value ranking in the top 9pc of +1.8, along with a milk figure in the top 4pc of +27.
The young sire also recorded an EMA value of +5.8 ranking him in the top 20pc, rib fat figure of +1.3, a rump figure of +1.9, both placing him in the to 30pc and a retail beef yield value of +1.2 which placed him in the top 35pc.
A volume buyer active throughout the sale was Brook Pastoral Company, Birdsville, Qld, who secured nine bulls for an average of $6000.
Mr Rumble said he was happy with the result, achieving a good clearance rate.
"We had a mix of new and repeat buyers," he said.
"It was good to see some heifers go to junior members, that's what we aimed them for."
Overall, 22 of the 26 bulls sold to a top of $16,000 for an average of $7045, while all four heifers sold to a top $6500 for an average $4250.
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Armidale and Cilon Say and Co, Guyra, with John Settree, Nutrien Stud Stock as auctioneer.
