A NSW stud making its Royal Queensland Show debut has taken home two out of three of the major titles in the Shorthorn ring on Saturday, August 9.

Sarah Reyner and Lachie Collins, Double K Shorthorns, Tamworth, NSW, took home grand champion bull with Double K Vortex V2, and later closed out the Shorthorn showing with a win for their breeder group.

The 12-month-old bull, sired by Futurity Setting the Standard and out of Futurity Daytonas Enia T315, first took home junior champion bull before going on to beat out his senior competitor for the grand champion ribbon.

He weighed in at 489kg, had an eye muscle area of 90 square centimetres, 12mm of rump fat, and 6mm of rib fat.

Judge Ben Crowley, co-manager of Tycolah Herefords and Brafords, Cobbadah, NSW, praised the bull for how well put-together he was.

"There's lovely dimension in this bull, he's got thickness and softness throughout," Mr Crowley said.

Exhibitor Sarah Reyner said she and Mr Collins were super happy with their first big win in the Shorthorn ring.

They chose not to attend the Sydney Royal Show back in April, as their now 16-month-old daughter, Tilly, was still quite young.

"We couldn't be more grateful," Ms Reyner said.

"It's our first Ekka.

"I came up a few years ago to watch the Nationals, but this is our first time exhibiting.

"We're loving the atmosphere...there's just really good cattlemen around that have given us a lot of great opportunities already."

Ms Reyner said she was particularly proud of winning the breeder group.

"That's the biggest compliment," she said.

"Lachie and I think that's the most important class out there.

"We're just so proud and so happy with that.

"We couldn't ask for a better day, really."

Grand champion female was awarded to Malton Broadwin V255, exhibited by the Falls family, Malton Shorthorns, Finley, NSW.

The nine-month-old heifer was sired by Ronelle Park Rolls Royce R10 and out of Malton Broadwin Gem K549.

Mr Crowley called the cow a real worthy winner, complementing her natural head carriage and her lovely extension.
