Angus ring results at Royal Queensland Show prove that sometimes bigger is better

A bull who made headlines earlier in the week for being the biggest in show has been crowned grand champion Angus bull at the Royal Queensland Show on Friday, August 8.
The Station King, exhibited by AJ and M Scrivener, The Station Angus, Yarrowitch, NSW, first won his class in the senior bull category before going on to win grand champion.
The 35-month-old bull was sired by Bowmont King K309 and out of Bonny Brooke Jean P75.
He weighed in at 1346kg, had an eye muscle area of 148 square centimetres with 15mm of rib fat, and 30mm of rump fat.
Judge Jake Phillips, who operates a seedstock Angus program in Naracourte, SA, praised the bull for his length and depth.
Grand champion bull exhibitor Emily Scrivener said she was very excited to take home the grand champion ribbon, praising her stud's winning bull, affectionately known as Buster, for his performance.
She joked she had to keep her toes out of Buster's way when in the ring, and said his show prep didn't include as much grain as people may think.
"In terms of feeding, Buster has eaten plenty of rye grass; he loves his grass," Ms Scriverner said.
When asked about the stud's future plans for Buster, Ms Scriverner said her first priority was getting him home to have a rest.
"He'll go home now and we'll let him down for a little while," she said.
"We've got a bloke lined up to come and collect, so we'll look into potentially selling some semen.
"Once he gets back into paddock condition, we'll put him over some cows."
Grand champion Angus female was awarded to Diamond Elas Miss Legend T413, exhibited by CL and GJ Iseppi, Diamond Angus, Cowra, NSW, after the cow previously won the senior cow or heifer category.

She was sired by Var Legend 5019 and out of Witherswood Ela K192.
Exhibitor Christie Fuller said she was over the moon with the win, joking that until her big win today, Diamond Elas Miss Legend T413 had been the bridesmaid but never the bride.
"She won the interbreed cow at Dubbo, at the show back in May," Ms Fuller said.
"She was also second to the Hordern Trophy cow at Sydney, so she's had a pretty short show career.
"She was never shown as a heifer."
Ms Fuller said she was ecstatic with the judge's comments, who praised the heifer in particular for the consistency between her and her calf.
"It was good to hear that he liked our type and what we were trying to achieve, and that they were pretty well-balanced and even," Ms Fuller said.
The 2025 Royal Queensland Show was the final show in this year's calendar for Diamond Elas Miss Legend T413, but her heifer calf will go on to the Melbourne show.
