XLBeef celebrates 30 years with repeat and first-time buyers chasing genetics, style and temperament
XLBeef at Dungowan celebrated 30 years of technical Angus breeding as a stud with loyal repeat clients and new recruits bidding up for diverse genetics, phenotype and temperament.
Of the 30 bulls offered, 28 sold to average $9540 and topped the sale twice at $15,000.
Six cow and calf units sold to a full clearance to average $7300 and top at $11,000.

A dozen heifers pregnancy-tested-in-calf also sold to a full clearance to average $7000 and peak at $13,000.
Best selling two year old bull XLBeef Fireball U53, artificially mated and Herd Book Registered by GB Fireball 672 from Stoney Point Panda S922 sold for $15,000 to Ron and Lou Doran, Molladree Pastoral Co at Mungindi.

The new clients, who run a mixed farming enterprise on Barwon River border country, were enticed by the look and style of the sire as he presented in the catalogue - as recommended by long-time friend and selling agent Daniel McColloch.
The Fireball son was marketed as a heifer bull with estimated breeding values that included intramuscular fat within the top one per cent of the breed at +6.6 per cent.
Other figures in the top 15pc were gestation length at -7.2, birthweight at +2 and calving ease daughters +7.6. He weighed 900 kilograms with a 43 centimetre scrotal circumference.
Long-time repeat clients the Tongue family, Nundle, bought two bulls to average $13,000 and top at the equal sale peak of $15,000 for the yearling sire XLBeef P/V Vezina V55 by Pine View Vezina from proven stud donor XLBeef Honey N101.
Weighing 570kg at 13 months with 38cm scrotal, his figures impressed with top 2pc eye muscle area clocking a whopping +14, with top 1.5pc retail beef yield at +1.5 and top 10pc $A-L index at $415.
Philip, Belinda and their daughter Sophie said they kept coming back for XL genetics because of their type, softness, and easy-doing nature.
The Tongue family, who have a black baldy cow base and are developing a three-way breeding cross with Gelbviegh, also bought two cow and calf units to average $9500 and top at $11,000 for XLBeef Millicent T70, with bull calf at foot and back in calf, PTIC to Connealy Craftsman.
Partner in the Tongue family's female purchases was near neighbour Richard Fitzgerald, Kunderang Angus at Nundle, who will register future progeny with Angus Australia.
Top selling female lot, at $13,000, was a heifer PTIC to Dunoon Sunstone in XLBeef Princess U111, by Ellington Prolific, which sold to emerging Victorian Angus stud Dryburgh Angus, Neerim Junction.
Dryburgh Angus stud principal Ben Whiteley, who runs 750 Angus breeders on 840 hectares, bid online for two cow and calf units plus four heifers PTIC to average $8166. He said he was drawn to the sale because of the data, looks and type.
"We want to start our stud at a good level," he said.
Sara Park Angus stud at Pinkett via Glen Innes came away with two female lots to average $9500 and top at $10,000 for PTIC heifer XLBeef Equator U75 in calf to Baldridge Heat Seeker, with low birthweight and top 25pc carcase weight.
Brahman Pastoral Co, Middlebrook Park at Garoo, came away with three bulls to average $11,000 and top at $12,000 twice - including XLBeef Texas KL U81 by Texas Katapult with breeding traits in the top 15pc for the breed.
Volume buyers were long-term clients the Ham family, Niangala, who purchased five bulls to average $7800 and top at $9000 for XLBeef True North V52 by Square B True North 8052 from a station-bred dam out of Carabar Diana J128 with top A-L Indexes in the top 10pc at $421.
Arnold, Aaron and Tabatha Ham said they kept coming back to XLBeef because of their bulls' structure and temperament.
The sale was hosted by McCulloch Agencies with AuctionsPlus handling some busy online traffic.
