A strong showing of stud breeders, school students and sheep industry supporters made their way to Jamestown for the 2025 Northern Merino Expo.

Sixteen studs from across the state showcased their top genetics at the new-look event, held near the shearing shed at the Jamestown Showgrounds.

The updated layout was well received, with a lively atmosphere and improved flow for visitors.

Expo committee member Sam Krieg said it had been a successful day, with more people through the gates than last year and strong support from schools, rural suppliers and sponsors.

"The weather's been kind, the move to a new location has been really positive, and we had more schools attend than ever," Mr Krieg said.

"It's been great to get together after a tough couple of years and celebrate a positive outlook for the Merino industry."

The event received $5000 support from the state government Connecting Communities Events Grant.

Schools competition judge Dennis Dalla said the student involvement was a highlight and encouraged more schools to attend in future years.

"It'd be fantastic if the schools' education day and the Northern Merino Expo were combined into one event," Mr Dalla said.

"The facilities are already here, and it's just as easy to educate 200 students as it is 100.

"I think even more schools would get value from the experience."

St Mark's College year 12 student Chloe Hodge said the event was a valuable hands-on experience.

"As someone interested in working in agriculture, I was able to learn more about sheep judging, meet industry and make connections for the future," she said.
