Bull by US imported genetics tops Sandon Glenoch on-property auction

Quality Angus bulls bred on the Western Downs sold into a large radius of Queensland, including north to Boulia, at the Sandon Glenoch on-property bull sale near Chinchilla, on Tuesday, August 5.
Vendors Roger and Tam Boshammer of Sandon Glenoch Angus, along with Nick and Kate Boshammer of NB Genetics, sold 78 bulls from 103 offered to average $8807, representing a 75 per cent clearance.
The sale topped at $24,000 for NB Genetics Uili U881 offered by Nick and Kate Boshammer.
He was a bull described by Nick as a "true representation of what we are aiming to breed" by the US imported genetics, GAR Dual Threat, from GAR Home Town 1200.
U881 was part of 30 embryos imported by the Boshammers from the Gardner Angus Ranch in Texas, USA.
"He was my pick of the catalogue from weaning, and he typifies what we want to achieve," Mr Boshammer said.
"It was due to my building a relationship with the Gardner family while in Texas that led me to import these genetics."
The sale topper was bought by Wandoan cattleman Neil James, Teragram.
Mr James said it was the bull's low birthweight and high early growth that impressed him.
The bull will be joined to 125 select Angus heifers, which form part of Mr James' Hereford/Angus crossbreeding program.
Once a straight Hereford breeder, Mr James said he started crossbreeding with Angus some 15 years ago.
Next at $16,000 was NB Genetics Uluinayau U872 that sold to Rideout Grazing, Biloela, while stablemate NB Genetics Udy U876 made the same money selling to the Hill family, Toolumbilla, Mitchell.
In all, Nick and Kate sold 17 bulls to average $12,588 as part of the sale draft.
Roger Boshammer said the sale results reflected a buyers day.
Roger and Tam's Sandon Glenoch draft topped at $14,000 selling locally to Greg McMahon, Rowena, Chinchilla.
In all, they sold 61 bulls to average $7754.
"It is pleasing to see so many repeat buyers, and good to see the spread of our genetics heading north to Boulia," Mr Boshammer said.
Major buyer was the Anderson family, Willsdowne Pastoral, Westland, Longreach, who finished with 11 bulls to average $9100 for their Boulia country where they run 900 Angus breeders.
Belinda Boshammer sold one bull to $10,000.
Last year, the sale topped at $30,000 with Roger and Tam Boshammer selling 69 bulls to average $9087; Nick and Kate Boshammer, NB Genetics, selling 22 bulls to average $12,000; and Belinda Boshammer selling one bull for $19,000.
Selling agent David Felsch, Ray White Livestock, Dalby was pleased with the solid interest despite the competitive Angus market in Queensland at the moment.
"We were proud to offer the quality genetics backed by 50 years of Angus breeding," he said.
