Brangus and Angus bulls share top price honours at JK Cattle Co sale

Brangus and Angus bulls shared the top price honours at the annual JK Cattle Company, Angus, Brangus and Wagyu Sale at Condamine on Monday, August 4.
Vendors Justin and Kate Boshammer, JK Cattle Co stud, Condamine, witnessed a complete clearance of their catalogue to end with a bottom line average of $12,000.
In a breakdown of the breeds, 48 Angus averaged $12,813 and topped at $24,000, while 16 Brangus set a $12,500 average and a high of $24,000 and 12 Wagyu bulls posted a $8583 average with a top of $16,000.
A pair of Ultrawag bulls sold for $6000 each.
In 2024, the sale saw 73 bulls sell for an average of $13,150, topping at $36,000 for an Angus.
First to carry the equal top-selling $24,000 price tag was the sale opener, the Angus entry, JK Cattle Co, Understandable U663.
The 23-month-old weighed 868 kilograms, selling to repeat clients, Ted and Jenny Murphy, Tayglen Station, Dysart.
This was the only purchase made by the Murphy family from the catalogue offering.
Sired by the $44,000 2019 acquisition, Sugarloaf Harvestor N174, the bull and his paternal siblings were the last of that sire to be marketed by the stud.

Commenting on his purchase Mr Murphy said it was the fourth time they had purchased bulls from the outlet.
"They're a sturdy, functional animal that do very well in our country and program," he said.
At the recent Central Queensland Carcase Classic the Murphy operation took out a host of awards. Among their wins was the pen of grain-fed four-tooth steers/heifers (300-420kg).
Two of the three winning steers entered in the class by Tayglen were sired by a JK Angus bull purchased three years previous.
The next to make the $24,000 mark was the Brangus entry, the 23-month-old, 828 kilogram, JK Cattle Co Unlimited U517.
Purchasing the son of Bimbadeen Q Picus P108 were regular clients, Stuart and Kira Reddan, Reddan Organic Beef, Bogarella, Augathella.
Reddan Organic Beef purchased four Brangus from the offering at an average $14,500.
Top of the Wagyu bulls at $16,000 was the polled purebred, JK Cattle Co V057.
At 15-months the youngster weighed 411 kilograms selling to Julie-Ann Brown, Heart2J Cattle Company, Spring Creek, Jericho.
Spring Creek will be the home of six Wagyu bulls purchased for on average $8333.
Another feature of the sale was the wide geographical area into which the males found homes.
Tom Rolfe and family, Rolfe Grazing, Springsure selected four Angus bulls to average him $14,000 to top at $20,000 for a 22-month-old Sugarloaf Harvestor N174 son.
