Homebred sires have proven their worth in the Northern Limousins Breeders sale, held in Scone, Friday August 1.

The sale achieved a clearance of 41 of the 43 bulls sold to a top of $26,000 for an average of $11,660, while four of the five heifers sold for a top of $5000 to average $4375.

Rising to the top was Angledale Ugo U18, offered by Craig and Shelly Devine, Willow Tree, and bought by Wayne Parkins, Murrurundi, for $26,000.

The 24-month-old son of homebred sire Angledale President P5, tipped the scales at 884 kilograms, with a scrotal measurement 42 centimetres, while recording an eye muscle area of 144 cm sq.

He also recorded a fat scan of 10 millimetres on the rump and 7mm on the rib, with a intramuscular fat content of 4.5 per cent.

The black bull continued the high performance through to his estimated breeding values while ranking in the top 6pc for his P8 fat with a figure of +1.1, as well as ranking in the top 5pc for his rib fat value of +0.7 and in the top 3pc for scrotal size figure of +2.3.

He ranked in the top 15pc for 200-day and 600-day weight traits with figures of +27 and +68, respectively, while being in the top 25pc for mature cow weight with a figure of +63, as well as his milk figure of +10.

This was the third bull Mr Parkins had bought from the family.

The Willow Tree-based stud also sold the top-priced apricot bull, Angledale Uralsky U17, for $21,000 to repeat buyers Peter and Janine Clysdale, Upper Rouchel, near Aberdeen.

Ranking in the top 4pc for retail beef yield with a EBV figure of +1.6, the Manali H271 son also ranked in the top 15pc for all calving ease traits as well as with his EMA figures of +3.1.

At 24 months, the young sire weighed 886kg, while also recording the second largest EMA in the catalogue of 151 cm sp, with fat scans of 6mm for both the rib and P8.

Meanwhile, it was an 11-month-old homozygous polled heifer Amber Park Voodoo Magic offered by Ken and Kristen Bisley, Wingham, who stole the show in the female draft.

Selling for $5000 to LAS Limousins, Horsley Park, the East Coast Hector 009H daughter recorded an EMA figure of +4.9, placing her in the top 1pc of the breed, as well as in the top 8pc for retail beef yield with a figure of +1.4.

She also ranked in the top 10pc for scrotal size, with a figure of +1.9 and in the top 20pc for both her 400-day weight figure of +46 and rib fat value of +0.3.

Nutrien livestock agent Chris Dobie, Scone, said the sale was a success for the breed, with this year being the most even line of bulls offered.

"The sale exceeded all expectations," he said.

The sale was conducted by Nutrien Ag Solutions Scone, while AuctionsPlus provided the online interface.
