Cap Droughtmaster Sale 2025
In all, 52 bulls, including 27 registered bulls and 25 selected herd bulls, have been catalogued for the 39th Cap Droughtmaster Sale to be held at Stewart Street, Gracemere, on September 25.
Mr Atkinson said these bulls were selected on their carcase traits.
"The sale draft includes 11 impressive sons of our $90,000 new season sire, Needmore Impact, and 10 sons of Rondel Black Tuxedo, our $180,000, 2022 Droughtmaster National Sale purchase. These will be the only sons offered by Black Tuxedo, as he was lost in his first season," he said.
The other bulls in the draft are by proven sires, which have been used in the Glenavon and CMC herds.
Proof of the commercial relevance of the cattle Glenavon produces was reflected when the stud won most successful exhibitor and champion pen of steers at the 2025 Rockhampton Show with 742kg two-tooth steers.
"The following week, we won grand champion steer and champion pen of steers at the Mackay Show with 744kg two-tooth steers."

Mr Atkinson said the bulls for the Cap sale are prepared on a silage ration.
"Bulls bought from this sale have a reputation of being able to go out and work and maintain condition. All bulls are semen morphology tested and come with a vendor guarantee."
For the 2024 sale, bulls were sold into Western Australia, New South Wales, and heavily into the Central Queensland area, down into the Maranoa region.
"It was a good, solid sale with bulls going to repeat buyers as well as a few welcome first-time buyers from a broader geographical area than usual."
By the fall of the hammer, 45 out of the 51 bulls offered by Glenavon and CMC sold to an average of $9347 for a top of $28,000.
"We're experiencing our best season at Glenavon since the 1970s, fortunately with no extremes to this stage. This has allowed us to prepare the Cap sale bulls without complication."

Those who're unable to attend the sale in person can register/log in and bid from home via Stocklive.
The Bulls catalogued for the sale can be inspected at any time via arrangement with the vendors. These bulls will also be available for inspection during the Droughtmaster National Sale from September 13 to 17 at Stewart Street, Gracemere.
