Affordability, quality and reliability underscore the bulls selected for the 14th annual Central Reds Droughtmaster Sale to be held at the Emerald Saleyards from 10am on Tuesday, September 23.

For this year's sale, a poll-heavy lineup of 60 bulls have been catalogued for the sale by eight well-regarded vendors, including the Hamadra R stud, which will make its debut at the 2025 sale, accompanied by returning vendors, the Kenlogan, Konjuli, Mostyndale, Strathfield 9JE, Vale View, Wetheron, and Hillside studs.

Each year, the sale vendors aim to provide a quality product at a reasonable price in the right place, at the right time. This focus has worked well over the years, with bulls regularly selling for solid rates to a supportive panel of bidders from the Central Highlands region and beyond.

Sale spokesperson Riley McKenzie said the vendors are all involved in the commercial beef industry and have solid success breeding bulls that suit this market.

"This sale has always been a great avenue to source handy bulls at reasonable rates," Mr McKenzie said.

In the tough cattle market conditions of 2024, the Central Reds vendors achieved a sturdy result, 78 per cent of the 40 bulls offered selling to an average of $6900 for a top price of $12,000 on two occasions.

Mr McKenzie said many in the region have enjoyed a beautiful season.

"The vendors have been kicking goals now with the late summer rain and follow-up winter rain. There's quite a bit of confidence around the cattle market at present."

All bulls selected for this year's sale have been morphology tested, which Mr McKenzie said has been a focus of the sale vendors, which has worked out favourably on sale day.

A supplementary sheet providing semen test, scrotal circumference, weight and EMA scans will be available on sale day. All bulls will be pre-treated for ticks to allow for movement to tick-free areas.

A freight rebate of $50 per bull will be available to buyers who purchase three or more bulls on the day.

Those who are unable to make the trip to Emerald for the sale can bid from home through the Stocklive online selling platform.

All bulls will be penned at the saleyards from the Sunday for inspection through to sale day morning.

The sale catalogue will be online from mid-August on the Central Reds Droughtmaster Sale website and Stocklive.
