2025 South East Merino Field Day
Photos by Catherine Miller and Paula Thompson
The South East Merino Field Day has grown into easily the state's biggest with a record 49 studs participating in the 61st annual event.
Three Keith studs - Moorundie, Gum Hill and Glenlea Park, under the new ownership of Joe and Lucy Murdoch - opened the gates to their properties, while another 46 studs put on displays at the Keith Showgrounds.
Of these the Makin family, Mt Monster stud, Keith and Gerald and Jodie Mullighan, Wyara stud, Andrews, were first-time exhibitors.
It was a great chance for prospective buyers to see a selection of the rams on offer ahead of the state's on-property Merino sales which commence later this week.
There was plenty of optimism with lamb prices at record highs and the wool market in front of the same time last year - although the sell off of ewes due to the drought was also on everyone's mind.
A highlight of the day was the sale of a Kamora Park stud reserve, KP240152, for $20,000 to the Rayner family, Millbrae stud, Kimba.
The 20.7 micron ram had a fleece weight of 8.9kg at six months growth. He was a son of Wiringa Park 450. which also sired a $40,000 ram which Kamora Park sold at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show at Bendigo, Vic, last weekend.
